Hi Di, thank you for you reply and your welcome. I know you've helped hundreds of people on this forum and I really appreciate your helpful reply.Wev'e given YB our business over the years not only with loans, but banking with them also. When I come home from work on Monday, I'm going to point this out to them ,alongside the advice you gave me, in a long 'phone call. I'll stress your advice, which I've written down. Just to let you all know, we stupidly had a loan of the dreaded firstplus which we settled 6 years ago.[Although at the time we thought they were the answer to our problems]. We finished the loan 2 years early and we couldn't believe how much insurace we had to pay in our settlement figure. The case has been with the FOS for 1 year now and and because the loan went through a broker who are no longer trading ,I think, it's taking a while to sort out. I know that its in the case files but hasn't been signed to an adjudicator. I know their inundated with complaints so I don't bother them too much! However I do check my e-mails daily! The thought of how much we had pay FP still maddens me. Good luck to eveyone and hopefully the letter boxes are rattling Monday morning.0

Hi everyone,
Has anyone had any success in reclaiming PPI where they dont have the original documents and the bank dont have the documents any more either? In particular HSBC??
I remember reading a post from someone who had done this but cannot remember the details!!

Hi
Yes, I have although not with the same business, some will still offer a goodwill gesture as long as you have the account number, even with minimum paperwork, hopefully HSBC will be just as lenient as well.
Give it a shot, good luck.
However, I have had success with HFC and they are under the same umbrella as HSBC but I was quite lucky to have the main of the paperwork.
Go for it, fingers crossed.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Did you admit you didnt have the paperwork or did you call their bluff?

LOL, this was with Lloyds, but what happened was that I remembered our very first loans with Lloyds back in the mid 90's, emailed customer service to tell them this and even the address we lived in at the time, and they got back to me and said although they did not have full details of the accounts we could still make a reclaim on the PPI, so basically they did know and admit there was PPI but said no paperwork.
I made a reclaim and they came back with offers, although not the correct amount we would have had if we did have all the paperwork.
Even though I know we defo had PPI as they were added on the 10 or more loans afterwards.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"
