PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I have had two good results of the past couple of days. Firstly yesterday I receiveda letter from Barclays. I had e-mailed the CEO at the end of July explaining that on looking at my credit file (I had only looked at this to get info on all my old credit cards and loans) an old loan that I had had with them was still showing "active" even though it had been paid off totally many years ago. So yesterday I received a letter stating that they will refund me the £10 SAR fee and also £40 for inconvenience of this being overlooked.
Today I received a letter from RBS regarding an old Nat West credit card stating that they are upholding my complaint and offering me £2483 as a gesture of goodwill - it never had a large amount on it but they have actually gone back to 2001! The thing that worries me with this though they state in the letter that they will pay if off the account if the card is still active or if we owe any other monies to thier group!!! Other than this they will send a cheque. We have old accounts with Tesco CC and Mint CC that we still owe amounts on so do you think they will pay this amount off these accounts. The actual Nat West account that this PPI was for was paid off in full long ago.
Hiya
Well done to you!
If that account is in no way related to the open accounts, then it should all come back to you, but it may just be a standard response they write on all letters. x;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Ive been lurking here and reading updates for some time now and finally got around to posting off a couple of old loan claims to MBNA and Egg loans just a couple of weeks ago.
Ive had letters back from both acknowledging receipt.
However, Ive since gone through my old chequebook stubs and found payments to several Credit card companies going back to 2001.
Only problem is that I have absolutely no paperwork whatsoever associated with any of these.
I only have name of credit card and the dates that I made payments to them.
Is it worth my while attempting any sort of claim off any of them ?
and if so, what sort of approach should I take ?
Thanks in advance for any info
Hiya
Defo give it a go with the reasons you have for being mis sold.
Is the account numbers shown in the cheque book stubs?
If you have no information, maybe then at first write to them with your personal details in order for them to try tracking these down, just to get hold of the account numbers.
Then the usual by completing the reclaim questionnaire on step 3, send to their complaints and head office, keep a copy for yourself as well, they normally have 8 weeks but may ask for more time because the FSA have allowed so many business for extra time to cater for the back log.
Good luck x

After the recent media coverage of the mass mis-selling of PPI I decided with the help of moneysavingexpert to pursue PPI reclaims against 4 different companies.
One of these companies was Capital One, who i wrote off to following the template letter published by MSE! I got a fairly quick response on 1st July 2011 informing me that they had received my complaint and were investigating it. On 20th July I received another letter informing me that they had decided to refund all my premiums in full plus an 8% interest added to the amount. I signed the acceptance form and received my refund cheque for £96.97 on 3rd August 2011. So all in all it took just over 1 month to claim this money back. It is perhaps worth noting that Capital One received a fine on 15th February 2007 from the FSA of £175,000 for PPI selling failures between January 2005 and April 2006 (a fact which I made sure to helpfully point out in my original letter!) My Credit Card and PPI were both taken out during this period, so I believe that my claim was reasonably straight forward. So if anyone else has had PPI on a Capital One card taken out within this period, My advice would be to start the reclaim process now, as the fabled 6 year period for reclaming is coming to an end this coming April! (Although i know there have been many settlements from much more than 6 years ago!)
Wow thanks for that information i wrote to them with my claim on thursday such a pity i didn't get this information sooner or else i would have put this in my letter but if i get any grief with them i will be stating that fact to them thankyou very much for this information with people like you on this site gives me great hope with claiming:T:):rotfl:congrats on your recent win0 -

Further to my original post, Ive had a scout around the internet looking for postal addresses to send off complaints to.
It would appear that the following credit card suppliers are no longer in existence
GM Card from 2001
Citybank Credit card from 2001
Peoples bank credit card from 2001
Any ideas on who I should write to for these cards ?
Many thanks in advance0 -

I'd call Tesco again to query it, if they still can't explain it I'd make a formal complaint and demand an explanation.

I think CityBank were also known at one time as Capital Bank, based in Chester (assuming the spelling is CITYbank and not CITIbank). They seem to now be part of the Bank Of Scotland, PO Box 761, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 9JF. Give them a call on 0845 6014034 - they'll be able to tell you if they are (or if I'm mistaken).0
