  • In November 2002 I took a loan out for £14,000 with Barclays and I was told I could only have the loan if I took out insurance.

I downloaded and slightly amended the template letter from Martin and sent it off in August 2008. I had received 2 standard letters from Barclays saying they are looking into my complaint and I could go to the ombudsman if I wasn't happy. I decided to leave it a while to see what happened and yesterday I received a phone call from Barclays saying they couldn't find my paperwork but they felt that I was mis-sold the policy and they had credited my account with £2,900. What a result!!!

I would urge anyone who feels they might have a complaint to download Martins template letter and send it off. Nothing is complicated and it is nothing to worry about.

My result couldn't of come at a better time - Christmas coming and baby due on 30th December!!

Thanks Martin and Merry Christmas :j

:j Co-op are refunding as "GOODWILL" 3 out of 4 of my loans. The other one they (or me!!) have not got the actual paperwork for. Its a nice amount just in time for Christmas..

    Sent initial letter to them
They say it was not missold but then as soon as it goes to the Ombudsman they make a "goodwill gesture" on one loan. I accepted on the basis they look at the others too as I had the paperwork (sent from them:rolleyes: ). They then made goodwill gestures on another two so 3 outa 4 aint too bad..

These loans are "OLD" loans as well but I knew that the co-op were part of the Old Banking Ombudsman Scheme (which was before the FOS were around) and as I only just became aware of the misselling these were looked into on that basis.

Don't give up at the first hurdle. Its pays to persist..

  • I have been in the process of reclaiming PPI for a Debenhams account I opened in 1994 when I was a student. The provider was GE Money and I actually closed the account in 2005.

I have just received a refund, interest and a goodwill payment to a total of over £6,000.

I did not have to go to the FLA (not the ombudsman here) however I did have to prove how many hours I was working by going to HMRC and providing a record of my National Insurance contributions for the year I opened the account.

My advive is simple - PERSIST, PERSIST, PERSIST. I had both the time and the inclination to do this, bearing in mind I started the claim in February of this year. Don't be put off, spend a tenner getting your records back, spend £1.08 to send your letters recorded delivery and if you know you are due the money back, don't be put off by the company you are claiming from.

What were you reclaiming: 3 loans
    Who was the provider:halifax
How much did you get back: will be paid within the next month
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: one letter!!!!
no amount yet but it only took one letter :T
I have come home today to the standard still dealing with your enquiry dated 26/11/08 and also letter saying they are going to refund me all premiums and put me back in the position had i not had the ppi, this letter also dated 26/11/08. I am so happy, nice amount back just in time for Xmas, by my calculations it should be in the region of £2000........dont give up anyone!!!! Just need to take on Tesco PF now. They have until 5/1/09 or to the Obudsman it goes:T :T
    • What were you reclaiming: Loan
    • Who was the provider: EGG
    • How much did you get back: £2294.89
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: After 1 letter
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
After reading this thread about 5 weeks ago I wrote one letter to egg about a loan that I took out in 2003. I received a letter last week saying they were still looking into it and today I came home to a letter saying they have agreed to refund me all of the premiums charged to my account including interest!!! My loan has now finished early and they paid the balance of over £800 into my bank account. I am truly stunned and never thought this would happen to me and be so easy, especially with Egg. All it took was sending one letter by recorded delivery, my husband is now digging out all paperwork he can find regarding him!
Definitely give this a go, it is so worth it and it is all down to this website :j :j

  • What were you reclaiming: ppi on loan
    Who was your provider: Halifax
How much did you get back: 2,703.65
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the financial ombudsman: 1st template letter, followed by a strong reply letter to their 1st reply letter!

Saw Martin on a gmtv feature covering mis-sold ppi's and realised that my loans had been mis-sold to me as I was self employed (since 1989!) when applying for original loan in 2002 and a top up loan in 2008. I sent them 1st template letter (they received 4th Oct 08 by R.D). They replied dated 7th Nov saying they would deal with my concerns within the 8 wk period! I sent a reply saying "Yes, 8 wks from 4th Oct 08!". I received (2) letters on 27th Nov to offer me refund of premiums, subsequent 11.9 and 6.9 interest, AND 8% statutory interest, AND ajust remainder of loan without ppi!!

I want to thank Martin for bringing everything to my attention and giving me the confidence and courage to take action!

I have actually turned down their offer after trying to calculate the absolute mess they have created (by merging both loans etc) and have given them 14 days to offer me 4,500 (I know, sounds greedy, but are'nt THEY?) before I refer the matter to the ombudsman!! :rotfl:

I will let you know the final outcome (if you are still awake! ha ha)
  • What were you reclaiming: ppi on loan
Who was your provider: Alliance & Leicester
How much did you get back: £1,838.25
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the financial ombudsman: 1st template letter.

My loan was outside the time period they were fined for by 2 months. My loan still has £2k left so this will go a long way towards paying it off nicely.

Cheers Martin! Didnt expect anything but what a nice saturday morning surprise.....it cleared my hangover up thats for sure
