Thanks to Martin's tips, I managed to reclaim just over £3800 from Northern Rock. I took out a loan with them a couple of years or so ago (still running now), but after reading Martin's articles, I believed I had been missold the PPI on the loan.

In September last year I wrote to Northern Rock asking to cancel the PPI, but they wrote back saying they hadn't missold the PPI. After several letter exchanges, I still wasn't happy with their replies so decided to write to the Financial Ombudsman sending them a copy of the loan agreement and copies of all correspondence. They were quite busy at the time and it took nearly 3 months for someone to be appointed to take on my case.

The F.O. contacted Northern Rock and more or less immediately received a reply back saying they would refund the PPI (just like that!). It took another couple of months or so before I got my money back, but it was well worth the wait.

THANKS MARTIN!!

Hi there Long Legs

I take it this was your final response?
If so did they suggest the Financial Ombudsman Service? (with an enclosed leaflet)?

Right then hun if the above was added in the letter about the FOS check this out here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm

There are forms you can download on the site or you can contact the FOS to post this to you, when you receive the forms, enclose all correspondence (copies) to add with the complaint form to include as much evidence as you can and the final letter from Northern Rock.

Keep at them and the FOS will look into this for you.

Keep us posted hun and don't forget there is also the PPI reclaiming forum next to this one if whenever you want any further help and info.

Good luck

I have never posted on this thread before, however in february i used the template to reclaim my OH PPI on a loan taken out in 2004. They said that they hadnt mis-sold the policy, but we went to the FSA. He had been mis-sold as he has a heart problem that pre-dates the polcy, which they never asked him about.

We have received the later to say we are having a goodwill gesture of a complete refund of all payments plus the 8% per annum interest. The total we reckon is going to be around £2500. Which has come on the week that OH has been put on a 4 day week.

So thank you ever so much to this site and Martin. Without it we would not have got through the last 12 months with money saving ideas and now this lovely windfall, which will pay off the rest of the loans we have so we will be debt free!!!

Just sending first letter to First Plus. We initially turned down the offer of PPI as our jobs are secure and we get decent sickness cover anyway. The girl in First Plus then said to think of it as a "savings policy" 'cos we'd get the premium back after 5 years. Being British we said yes and then didn't read the small print:confused:. It turns out that whilst the policy premium is about £20000 which we would get back after 5 years, we continue to pay the monthly premium of £152.99 for the entire length of the loan, meaning we actually pay £45897.00!!! Some savings scheme, eh! We lose £25000!!! Also, the policy doesn't cover us both anyway - it's been mis-sold on so many levels, but don't know how far we'll get 'cos of not reading everything properly at first. Expensive lesson to learn methinks:mad:

Wish us luck - great to see that some people are getting their hard-earned cash back from the vultures who claim to be working in our best interests. Here's a thought - buy a safe and save for things instead of getting credit. Don't give 'em your money - they're not safe!:D
Join the thread PPI reclaiming discussion and you will be able to have rant on there. Let us know how you go on and extra good luck.;)

I provided my college certificate which showed that I had earned credits in the month I had opened the account but they said this did not prove that I was not also working at the same time (16+ hours a week) so it depends what you are sending them.

It was not difficult to get the info from HMRC, in fact there is an on-line form to fill in. The only problem here is that it takes time to come through. Once I had this, GE Money were able to average out the earnings per week and were happy that this was not full-time.

Goodwill payment was 8% per annum which for me ended up as just under £2000.

Good luck.

Wow £2000 goodwill - bet you were over the moon! I have sent them a transcript from my unioversity and also a covering letter to state what periods I was a fulltime student. Will get my NI contribution info started just in case they ask........congrats again :-)

• Hi, put a ppi claim in to HBOS back in march. Obviously they turned down my claim so took to the FOS who upheld my complaint and told HBOS to pay in full + 8% interest by the 11th August. It is now 3rd December and have still not recieved payment. HBOS are telling me this is because I have a migrated loan (loan sold to another bank) and they haven't worked everything out yet. I have rung the FOS and they say they can only put pressure on HBOS to pay up but can't do anything else. Is there anything else I can do? this is getting ridiculous!!!!!!!!

You could try a letter before action I think.

Dear Sir/Madam (or name of person);
Re: (
Invoice/Contract Number etc.)
I write further to my letter of the (
date) regarding the above matter.
I believe I will have no alternative but to take legal action against your firm if
my claim is not settled within the next 7 days.

State what you want the trader to do

I look forward to receiving your response to this letter.

Are they offering to put you back into the position as if you never had the PPI as there is no mention of the payments already made against the PPI or is that where they say refund of the premiums and interest..

If where they say refund the premiums and interest are they then removing the remaining PPI too and refunding that.

I would ask your Northern Rock to explain the redress offer more and ask if they are putting you back into the position as if you never had the PPI..
• How long did you guys have to wait from sending the acceptance form til you recieved your cheque from Alliance and Leicester?

As I've been waiting for just over a month now. :(
