Just a quick post to say that I recently won compensation for my credit card PPI from HSBC. In total I was awarded £4700 for the last 6 years payments plus interest. HSBC did not admit fault, but did say that they would repay the money in good will. It was a simple letter back in March, and no need to go through the ombudsman.
I would say to everyone what I told my friends - If you think you were mis-sold the PPI just complete the letter and send it off, it took at the most an hour of my time, and has resulted in a substantial sum being awarded. Even if the lender says no, you haven't lost anything.
Many thanks for the advice this site gives, if I hadn't read it here I would never have sent off the letter.

Fingers crossed on yours too Kate.;)

Thanks Dizzy Di! I tried emailing HFC with the email you gave me, unfortunately I got a failure message returned due to address. Not sure what to do now, any other suggestions? I guess I could try & fing the number & ring if no other email address, it's just easier with email, whenever I phone somebody I seem to get passed to person to person!!! Grateful for more advice or alternative email address, thankyou, Kate.

I don't quite know what to expect to be honest.

Since 1999 I have had 7 loans with Halifax (one of which is still going and is quite large), the other 6 that have been repaid in full. All had monthly PPI.

Also, I have had a Credit Card with the Halifax since 1998 that has always had a balance on it ranging from £1,000 to £3,500. This also had PPI.

I have also had one loan with HSBC that has 1 year to go out of 5, which was for £5,000 if memory serves and a Credit Card with them also that had a £3,500 limit. It was at that limit from 2006 to 2008. Again, both had monthly PPI.

Both have replied to me after 6 weeks informing me that they now have up to 16 weeks.

    Fingers crossed.
