Nothing Frankie. The lenders will fob you off every time if they can. Have you worked out how much you have paid on these cards in ppi premiums?
I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

However, I have since seen the light.
  • Done the template letters and got the usual 'we are looking into your complaint' malarky. I've just received a letter today (finally!!!) from Halifax saying they are satisfied that my policy was inappropriate for me because they can't prove or disprove the claims I made about mis-selling as there is no paperwork available nor is there any record of who sold me the policy. They will be contacting me shortly with 'an appropriate payment to settle my complaint'. WOOOOOO HOOOOOO

A massive thank you to Martin yet again as thanks to you I've now clawed back £1800 in bank charges and over £200 in credit charges. Have a fab Christmas you are a hero.

  • martin, Thank you thank you and another thank you. I folowed your template in reclaiming PPI from Alliance and Leicester and they agreed without any hassle to reimberse me for me for four years worth of PPi ammounting to £1,370 and adjusting payments until the loan is cleared in October. All in all it took 30 days from posting off template to them settling without argument. Your advise has been invaluable and Im now looking forward to a lovely holiday in Portugal . Thanks again.XXXXXXXXX

I posted off 5 letters to various companies that I had/have PPI with, 2 store cards from GE (Mothercare and Evans), M & S Money (credit card) Sainsburys Credit Card and an MBNA Credit Card. I received replies from all of them within 10 days all saying they were looking into the matter. I received a 2nd letter from M&S saying they had looked up my application form and I had ticked the box for PPI, they sent me a copy and I had ticked the box! They said I was NOT mis sold the policy as I had ticked the box! I received 2 letters today from GE saying that both store cards were taken out before 2005 when a new law came into force so I had not been mis sold the policies. How come everybody else gets money back? What am I doing wrong.
    Hi Frankie;

Just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one who's not getting anywhere with this. I have just heard from the HSBC, that they will not entertain my complaint for being mis-sold ppi on an HSBC credit card somtime ago. I have also reecived the standard, "we are looking into the matter", to my latest letter, dealing with a loan I took out 2 years ago. It does seem to be luck of the draw at the moment, and I guess they will try everything possible not to pay up. Just keep trying and I'm sure things will work out. The success stories keep me going on with my own battle! Plus the fact that I'm disgusted that a large bank, which I thought would be the better place to borrow from can be so underhanded!

Best of luck, let us all know how you get on.
  • I have successfully reclaimed PPI on a loan from Alliance & Leicester totalling £1182 from one letter!!
The PPI was on a £5000 loan taken out in 1999. I finished making repayments in 2004!!!! I asked about repayment rates when I got the loan and remember specifically asking for the cost of the loan without PPI. I was told I had to take it to get the (much needed) loan.
I sent one letter (Martins template). Alliance & Leicester sent me 3 courtesy letters updating me on the progress of the claim and agreed settlement of my claim after 8 weeks.
    Brilliant! Thank you Martin!
    • What were you reclaiming: ( loan PPI)
    • Who was the provider: (Alliance & Leicester)
    • How much did you get back: £1021.10
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Wrote to them using the first tmeplate, and within 4 weeks offer for full refund.
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale When first took out the loan for £6k three years ago, I hadn't realised at first that PPI was included. When I noticed about three months later, tried to cancel but told I could not. Subsequently tried to claim when off sick after operation only to be told pre-existing condition. When I saw the bit about PPI I thought that it applied to me for the health element, so I sent off the first template letter suitably amended for my needs. Just had the letter from A&L confirming that they will refund ALL the premiums paid and cancel policy. I've only got 4 months left on the loan so I'm going to pay off early and enjoy spending the rest on Christmas treats for the family.:T
    Thanks to MSE Martin
  • Anyone else claiming for first direct ppi refund on basis of not being told that only one is covered on joint loans??

I have been rejected twice using template letters and have now sent letter to ombudsman.

First direct claim it is clearly stated on my agreement that only one is named for insurance but it has been put on same page as loan figures and we simply did not spot it when signing. It was not mentioned to use when accepting over the phone and presumed both would be covered as its a joint loan based on joint salary and if non named person had become sick or had accident we would have struggled to meet payments.

What is chances of ombudsman agreeing we had been mis-sold ?
  • What were you reclaiming Store cards (Burtons, Evans ,Dorothy Perkins)

Who was the provider GE MONEY

How much did you get back £2562.24

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: ??? After sending in the second letter they asked for evidence that i was out of work at the time and had a pre-existing medical condition.I duly sent the second letter with the evidence they asked for and told them they had 2 weeks to settle or i would have no hesitstion in escalating my claim.I recieved 3 letters back stating i was mis sold and they had refunded the money back into my account.

Thank you so mich Martin your are a star and your site is invaluable.

I had taken a 6K loan out with PPI and tried to cancel it after about a year. A&L said no unless I refinance, I didnt bother. Then when I saw all the successes I wrote to them, they sent me a holding letter after 3 weeks and then another one after 3 weeks saying they were very busy dealing with this type of complaint ! Couple of days letter an offer of full PPI contributions paid from the start to date plus intereset:rotfl: I need to sign saying I am happy with this and I have sent them this today so hopefully have the cheque in the bank in time for Christmas.

    Thanks Martin :j
  • WHAT WERE YOU RECLAIMIN: - Loan PPI

WHO WAS THE PROVIDER: - Lloyds TSB
HOW MUCH DID YOU GET BACK: 3069 + interest :j

    BRIEF STORY:

Mt husband took out a 15k loan in 2002. He was told he had to have the ppi or else he would not be approved for a loan. Back then neither of us were financially astute ( I was a student ) and so it wasn't questioned. A few years later we both went in to cancel and we were told we couldn't. We then went back two more times and again told we couldn't cancel. In the end the loan was paid off 4 months early as we were both pee'd off with lloyds over the whole matter.

Anyway, saw this website and I knew we were elgibile for a claim. Sent the first letter and was rejected straight away. They said he signed the form and he would have been told it was optional so therefore we had no case. HOWEVER, they didn't even acknowledge the fact we'd been in to cancel but were turned away. So we wrote again asking why they had completely ignored one of the points and again re-emphasising that he was given absolutely no choice in the loan protection.

Letter arrives today stating as a gesture of goodwill we will receive £3069 + interest within the next 21 days.

We are so happy thanks to this website
