I took out a loan back in 2005, on the understanding that it would be approved IF and only if, I took out the PPI cover!
Being young and naive at the time I accepted.
However, as I've grown up and discovered MSE I realised that I had wasted money on a product that I didn't need or really want!
I wrote to Egg a few months ago, using the Martin's letter template, and after several "we're still dealing with your complaint" letters, I finally recieved a letter in February telling me that my complaint was upheld, but the refund owed to be could not be calculated until the government's judicial review had been completed!
I was pleased that I would be getting some money back, but not too excited that I didn't know how much, or when.
So imagine my surprise when only a few weeks later another letter arrives, telling me that "after further investigation" they were refunding the cost of my PPI premium PLUS contractual interest!
They sent me a lovely cheque for £989! :j
Thanks MSE Team for giving me the bottle to actually do it!
Brilliant well done.:T:T:j

A week ago it went through my mind that my partner and I had been paying an A+L loan for ages, now Santander. I dug out the agreement to find the loan which was for £3000 and just short of £100 per month didnt finish until December 2012.
When taking a closer look at the terms I saw that almost £30 of the £100 was for PPI. I remember them saying at the time we had to take this out as a condition of the loan.
The loan was taken out in December 2007, so we got it over 5 years. I do remember having visited this site before so I searched for you all and found the template letter and sent one off.
Well....yesterday, just one week later,to my amazement I recieved a reply and they are paying up!!! No arguments just a letter to say they are going to transfer the money back into our account. We are getting £987.17 repayment, £134.20 interest, and £56.50 for having had to send them a letter!!!
This is just a few hundred pounds short of what we need to settle to loan so I will be using the money to settle up and we will get a much needed £100 per month extra which I know is sad but will make so much difference to us.
I cannot thank you enough, If there is anyone reading this wondering whether to give it a go my advise is .... just do it!!! Thank you and good luck to all! :j0 -
