Just got a letter from Barclays after eleven weeks they have put me back into the position I would have been had I not had PPI two years ago.
So took all the PPI off my loan plus the intrest I had paid plus they debited my account with £140 being the 8% statutory intrest I claimed.
Reason given by them QUOTE an element of doubt that I would not fully benefit from the policy .
BIG THANKS TO THE SITE :T
    Well done to you:j
  • My husband & I took out a loan via loans.co.uk with Firstplus in 2004, it was for £25000 for debt consilidation. We were sold a "single premium policy" for the sum of £7000 and was encouraged and persuaded by the "dont claim and get all you money back in 5 years time" line. We werent advised that if the loan was paid up early that the full insurance premium would become payable, as it is added to the loan. We had the loan for 9 months when we remortgaged and paid it off, and to my shock we had to pay all the insurance back on top of the loan we originally took. I asked could I keep the policy running without the loan, but they said not. We very reluctanlty paid off the loan to reduce our outgoings, and it only came to light that something could be done following all the hipe about single premium policies. To date I have wrote to loans.co.uk who passed me over to Firstplus, both have refused to acknowledge my complaint and I have now put it in the hands of the FO., that was in May this year.I havent heard anything to date, and I dont know how long it will take, but I strongly beleive no news is good news. How institutes could get away with selling these policies is beyond me, as it robs onsumers of their hard earned cash, because they are not what they deem to be.

    Hi All,

Just an update to my PPi claims.

Black Horse - BH filed to the court for my claim to be 'struck out'. I sent a letter to the court stating that this should not happen as theLimitation Rule should not apply etc. The court had a hearing in September and agreed to adjourn teh case until Monday.

Creation (JJB CArd) - Went through the small claims court, Creation filed an acknowledgement and stated they would make a defence. The 28 days past and no defence was made so I filed a judgement due to non response and the court have sent this judgement to Creation.

Bank of Scotland Credit Card - sent 4 letters, they rejected and rejected until my final letter and they have now decided to uphold. Still awaiting to hear how much though.

Abbey Credit Card - Had one letter, then sent a reply asking for how much I had paid and copies of applications etc. No response to this letter so I e-mailed the MD. Still no repsonse, so I emailed every possible e mail address at Abbey I could think of.

Complaint manager phoned me a couple of weeks ago and apologised for delay as 'they could not trace any history or paperwork'. I sent them copies of any statement I had and they have now upheld my complaint - £3200 cheque received on Friday!! Just in time for my trip to Vegas in November!

Well for those that already know my story, my case has been going on from since November 2007, when Halifax/BOS refused to pay PPI on 3 early repaid loans, and 2 live loans.

Well took it the FOS, who upheld all 5 of my cases. On the 8 september 2008, the FOS advised me that they had sent my signed form to Halifax and that i should recieve my refund within 6 weeks.

On the 27 September 08, i received notification, of just what i would recieve:

    Closed loans refund

    £640.18
    £1526.24
    £501.11

The ombudsman advised Halifax, to redress and re-calculate the 2 exsisting loans and refund me the premeims that i had already paid

    Open loans refund

    £2955.75
    £867.55

so in total i will recieve £6490.83

so far i have recived the closed loan refunds which took about 2 weeks to be given one was in a cheque and then one was sitting in a Halifax savings account for a week, which i never knew about,as i never use the account. Now i am just waiting for the letter to be of redress and calculations to be dealt with.

I am soooooo happy, i will be able to pay off some of my debt and pay off one of the loans which is about £1500.00 remainding.

Just want to say thank you to MARTIN, your website/forum advice was great and without you US as consumers would not be able to fight this fight and feel confident to do so.:money:

Also want to say thank you to all of you guys that were so supportive through a loonngggg, stretched out ordeal (di, marshallka, tiggra)

I Have got a mortgage one with them, and now my mum wants me to help claim hers back, the nice thing about it, is that i feel confident to help others now.

SO remember YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!:T :j

Oh thank you, more than i even expected.xxx
  • What were you reclaiming: PPI Insurance
    Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £3,020.40
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Via Financial Ombudsman

Wrote originally to HSBC back at the first half of this year and they basically told me to go away. As I didn't have the time (and energy) I went through one of those reclaim people (who were very good actually and kept pressing them). Anyway, went to Financial Ombudsman in the end and just received £3020.40!!!!!!
But, an additional part of this story is that this is for an old loan that we had with HSBC which was taken out in the days when we had money! Anyway, the loan defaulted a couple of years or so ago and now we pay £10 a month off the balance (no added interest) to the company that HSBC sold the loan to. The point I want to make is that even if you don't have the loan/PPI anymore because you have defaulted then it's still worth progressing with the claim. Normally, from what I understand, any refund you get goes to pay off the debt, which is good news in the end!
