PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

lovelybirchtrees wrote: »PPI reclaim: I reclaimed PPI on a £20,000 loan from LloydsTSB. I took the loan out a year before I lost a £10,000 a year contract. I was totally self-employed when I took the loan but was told that because I had two on-going contracts that were essentially full-time work I would be covered. When one contract was taken back inhouse I tried to claim and was told I was ineligible because I was self-employed. I told the bank what I had been told and asked them to remove the PPI. They refused. I ended up with Payplan for several years but finally repaid everything outstanding when my husband was able to claim some of his pension as a cash sum that enabled us to pay off almost everything. I refused to pay the PPI plus the interest I figured had been added because of it. LloydsTSb told me I had no case and refused to remove the outstanding amount. I went tothe Ombudsman and sent my own letters detailing what had happened. I had requests for further information from Lloyds and the Ombudsman but on 8 October received a letter from the Ombudsman ruling in my favour. I received a letter from lloydsTSB dated 23 November detailing what they would pay me minus some because I had repaid early (?). The upshot was I was to get a cheque for £1,101.78 paid into my account. As I no longer have a LloydsTSB account I called to find out where the amount would be deposited and asked if the difference meant that any outstanding on the loan was paid off. I was assured that it was. However a few days later I received a cheque for £6,639.26 from LloydsTSB. The left hand doesn't know what the righthand is doing. I am banking the cheque and waiting for them to ask for the difference back. Any body else had this experience?LBM August 2005 £40,000
25 February 2009 £21662.12
6 January 2010 £6,691 Lloyds PPI including interest.
12 October 2010 Ombudsman says Lloyds to repay me PPI + interest.:j0 -
Hi All
I just wanted to say you having nothing to loose by writing to companies you have taken out PPI with. I sent out letters to a total of 7 companies that my partner and I had various PPI insurance policies with - and with only one letter to each so far, 3 companies have refunded us our PPI payments in full, plus interest accrued, totalling £4612.61!!! (Egg, Santander & Sterling).
I have referred a further 2 companies (RBS & MBNA) to the Financial Ombudsman Service as they gave me a final response saying they weren't going to act on my complaint until the legal battle between them and the FSA was finalised.
The final two companies (Tesco and Natwest) I am still awaiting a response from - failure to get a response by the end of this week will mean I refer them to the Ombudsman too as I would have allowed them over 60 days to respond by then.
The money we have recevied so far has enabled my partner and I to clear nearly half our debts - which has taken a massive weight off our shoulders. The £2 worth of stamps and 2 hours of my time it took to produce the letters has been the best time and money I have ever spent! I highly recommend people give it a try at the very least, and I am more than happy to offer help to anyone who wishes to give it a try.
Good luck everyone! :j0 -

I refused saying I couldn't do it on the phone but then they offered to drop the amount by about £2000 to get it all paid off so I said OK and I am now debt free. I plan to stay that way. Good luck to everyone reclaiming. It is worth the effort and the wait.
Well done and wise too!:beer:The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

I am a little bit confused to say the least. I have been battling with MBNA to get my PPC back since July 2010. I ticked the "NO PPC" box on the credit agreement and they added it anyway. After a few statements way back in 2000, I contacted them about this charge and was told that I had to have it. MBNA stalled my FOS questionnaire, and kept on sending further stalling letters (way over the 8 week period). They then sent me a letter in October, the "we're not doing anything due to the Judicial Review". I sent my paperwork to the FOS.
Last Friday, I emailed the top boss of MBNA stating that I have been treated very unfairly as my case is black and white, I said NO, MBNA ignored me. I also attached a copy of my credit agreement where the box has a big fat NO PPC ticked by me. I nearly spat my tea out at work on Monday when I received an email stating:
"Thank you for your email. Ian O’Doherty has asked me to acknowledge receipt of your complaint, and to confirm that we will provide you with a response within the next seven working days.
If there is any additional information you wish to provide, or you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me using the details below".
Could this mean that they may be looking into my case now that I have gone right to the top......or more stalling nonsense? I wonder? They owe me about £5,000.0 -
I had the same response regarding putting them on hold, but they addressed them (after a few phone calls) and sent me settlement letters.....I did have all the account numbers though (I'm sure they still have a record of yours somewhere).
I'd hang in there I think they may just be taking a while getting through all the backlog.
Best of luck
Thanks. Yes I will sit it out a little longer if still nothing then I will give them a call. So when did you first makes your claims? Sorry about all the questions, just curious as to where mine are in the queue!0
