What were you reclaiming: LOAN PPI
Who was the provider: ABBEY
How much did you get back: £3000 + INTEREST
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: THREE LETTERS / NO FSO
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
Was incensed at the manner in which Abbey were trying to double charge me and front load my interest payments, as well as deny me half of my rebate to which I was entitled!Total Reclaimed from banks and credit cards so far: £14139 :T

Hi there
THANKS a LOT!!! :-) :j
Success achieved this month helping someone to reclaim PPI sold with a personal loan (taken mid 2004, five years) - against Barclays plc.
Letters initiated 02/04/2008
Referred to Financial Ombudsman in August after delaying tactics (two acknowledgement letters several weeks apart, asking for further time) and then late responses from Barclays including a peculiar telephone call asking leading questions - responded by insisting that all communication from them be in writing instead.
Received settlement proposall and acceptance form dated 15th September -
figures as follows (rounded to nearest £):
PPI premium £1,408
Interest added to loan re PPI premium £595
Interest at 8% on repayment £273
TOTAL expected reclaim amount (Ombudsman letter with acceptance form) £2,277
Advice to fellow reclaimers: Stick with it!
MANY thanks, Martyn
- GREAT advice.
Best wishes.

Congratulations!!!
Was the loan with Barclaycard or Barclays Bank itself?Total Reclaimed from banks and credit cards so far: £14139 :T
Amount outstanding £550 :beer:0 -
Big success here today, after reading about PPI reclaims on the website!
What were you reclaiming: Unfairly sold PPI on a loan
Who was the provider: Household Bank/HFC
How much did you get back: £1805.14 (inc. 8% interest) + £150 goodwill gesture
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Just sent the template letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale I was sold a loan a couple of years ago and was never given the option of purchasing it without PPI, despite PPI being explained to me. Didn't know that what they had done was illgeal until coming on this site. Complained in March and today (September!!!!) got a response after telephoning them threatening with the ombudsman. They've refunded all of the PPI and a good will gesture of £150 because of the long delay. I am now able to pay of the balance of the loan and be loan-free.
Cheers Martin & team :money:0 -
Have been meaning to add for a little while now but not got round to it, although I do not have all the calculations in front of me right now, my first complaint went as far as the FOS from Nov 2006 against a mis selling of PPI (Nemo personal Finance):
We were paid out approx £13K plus interest etc Jan 2007.:D
And I wrote to Liverpool Victoria earlier this year, and after the very 1st letter, we received an offer of over £1.5K plus interest which was about right, this one had taken approx 3 weeks.:D
Now on with the others which have not been easy so far, but will keep going.:j
Well done to all!!:beer:The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I was recently offered a £4'624 refund after complaining to Barclays about my PPI... But not without a fight.
My case did not get as far as the Financial Ombudsman but the manner in which Barclays defended my Claim was interesting because they initially put up a great deal of resistance in their first letter, only to make an offer in their second letter which just goes to show that you should not be threatened by their strong letters. I wasn't and I received over £4.5k.
I wanted to help others by posting the wording of my letters that helped me get money back.
Here is my first letter:

** *** ****
PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL / WITHOUT PREJUDICE (save as to costs)
Dear Sirs,
RE: Barclays Payment Protection Plan Insurance
On ** ***** **** I purchased Payment Protection Plan Insurance (“PPP”, “Policy”) from Barclays Bank PLC. I now believe that I was mis-sold this Policy. I also believe that Barclays Bank PLC and / or agents and / or sales persons acting on behalf of Barclays Bank PLC knowingly mis-sold this Policy to me.
Firstly, I paid a single premium for my Policy but did not see it through to the end of its initial term after paying back my loan earlier than planned on ** *** **** and thereby cancelling my insurance Policy. A change in my circumstances meant that I was no longer eligible for the insurance Policy from this date and both my Solicitors and myself informed you of this at that time. Despite my Solicitors querying your charge for just 10 months of the cover, you failed to respond.
For the record, during my conversations with your sales person I made it clear that the loan was a temporary solution until I had sold my property and therefore the PPP and more specifically the term of the PPP given was not appropriate for me.
I also refer you to the March 2007 Financial Service Authority report (which covered “new and existing policies”) concerning the unfairness of single premium policies and will refer this to the Court (and Financial Ombudsman) in any future proceedings against Barclays Bank PLC.
Secondly, I was self employed when the Policy started and for the duration of the Policy was self employed and made this information available to your sales person before the Policy was sold. For the avoidance of doubt the Policy was sold to me despite the fact that my employment status (which was disclosed to you) partly contravened the “exclusions and limitations” of the cover. The sales person did not give me full information on what the Policy would and would not cover before making my decision.
Thirdly, and importantly, I entered into the policy after your sales person told me that after 60 months of no claims on the Policy I would receive a refund of 100% of the amount paid (£12’157.30) and it was described to me as a “free” Policy. I did not realize (and was not told) that selling my house and therefore being compelled to repay the loan (and by default having to cancel the Policy) would affect the Policy refund.
In addition to all of the above, your sales person did suggest to me that taking out the PPP would help with the acceptance of my application. The whole manner of the sale of the PPP was trivialised and made out to be ‘no big deal’.
I understand that Barclays Bank PLC records telephone calls and place you on notice that the recordings of these calls should be disclosed in any future proceedings that may arise from this claim and I reserve my right to rely on these recordings in support of my claim.
It is clear from all of the above that this policy was certainly not sold in my best interests. It was knowingly carelessly sold, and in light of the above I demand that the full amount paid for the Policy be refunded to me, plus interest accrued on the loan from the lump sum payment, plus statutory interest of 8% on that amount since termination.
Should you fail to provide me with the above undertakings in full , I will issue proceedings against you without any further notice and will further seek to recover the cost of instructing my Solicitors from you on an indemnity basis, i.e. in full. This letter should be treated as a ‘letter before action’.
I also reserve my right to refer this matter to the Financial Ombudsman in order to investigate my complaint and your conduct.
Yours faithfully,
***** ******

They replied to this with a very strong four page letter telling me that I had no case, they had listened to the recordings and basically telling me I had no chance of success and they presumed that I didn't want to take the matter further.
Here was my response:
_______________________________________________
Dear Mr *****,
RE: Barclays Payment Protection Plan Insurance
I write further to your letter of ** *** ****, thank you for going to the time and trouble of providing me with such a detailed response.
Please note that I do not accept the majority of your letter and please be advised that I wish to pursue my complaint. Many of your points are simply rejected.
Thank you for your offer to disclose the telephone recordings that you refer to. I do wish to accept this offer and I can confirm that I do not want the disk to be encrypted.
Please would you confirm to me if the contents of the disk that you are sending me are:
(i) the full recordings of every conversation that I had with your sales person in your call centre regarding the loan and PPI.
(ii) the recordings from each and every consultant that I spoke to in that call centre / department.
If, by ** ******* ****, you decide not to provide the undertakings set out in my letter of ** **** ****, I will ask the Financial Ombudsman to decide if £8’721.70 is a fair amount to charge for 10 months of Payment Protection Insurance.
Meanwhile, I fully reserve my right to bring this matter before the Court.
Yours Sincerely,
_______________________________________________
Their response one month later was to offer me £4'624:68 in addition to what they had already paid me, amounting to a 78% refund. This was offered in good faith.....

Some Success for my mum, whose claim I have also been helping with. She has had 12 loans off the RBOS of scotland over a long peroid of time and on all was mis-sold PPI due to having a pre-existing illness/pressure sold/told it was good for the application to get it/and then just told it was part of the loan.
She has had in 2 rejection letters with regards to 2 loans but today she got a letter today with a goodwill gesture towards 5 loans.
£1265.69
£1242.48
£881.69
£614.55
£551.07
Total = £4555.48
I havent read the letter but it clearly doesnt include interest to date and the 8% a court would add but I doubt my mum will take it further with these ones because she isnt very well off and needs the money. Thank you for your help on this matter it has made my mum very happy which makes me happy. I will keep you updated on the other 7 loans they have not responded to so far.:beer:0 -

Complaint for loan PPI
Company - Firstplus
Amount claimed - Unsure no settlement figure as yet
Complained to FP in Sept 2007. Recieved usual sorry this was not mis-sold.
Went to FOS in Dec 2007. Allocated adjudicator Feb 2008 this was upheld.FP disagreed. Formal adjudication was then made in July 2008. FP slow to respond to this.Today recieved notice that although FP do not agree with FOS as a gesture of goodwill will Re-arrange loan writing off all remaining amounts of PPI including interest and charges.Reducing monthly cost of loan.
Will calculate how much PPI + Interest has been paid to date and return this to me + 8% of all payments made.:j
Don,t give up on reclaiming no matter how long it takes:T0
