On a DMP with cccs. Egg loan refunding £4497 of PPI charges after 1st complaint letter. Thanks a million Martin & everyone.

    Hi

have you been told you will get the refund as a cheque or are they going to credit your debt that's part of your DMP that you owe them?
  • Has anyone had issues trying to cancel PPi with Mind Card? Can you believe staff told me that i could not cancel unless it's in writing. Then when i challenged was hung-up on. the idiots!

It took months before they cancelled. and worse they would not give me a a full list of PPI premiums paid. What the £$%£$$*!
  • hi can anyone advise on my situation.
Took out a loan with M&S in October 2000, for £10100.51 with interest of £4356.73, insurance then was £2414.48 with interest £3455.76 payable over 84 months, i did settle the loan a couple of months earlier than i should of.
I wrote to M&S as i have since realised that i had and still have alternate insurance which covers me from unemployment, disability, critical illness, and accidental death, and hospital cover all which are still running. I have explained this to them and have had a letter back today.
They have said that at the time i took out my loan they were not regulated by the Financial Services Authority, so in addition they were not registered with the General Insurance Standards Council, therefore M&S acted in its capacity of an unauthorised intermediary and as such the sale does not fall within my voluntary jurisdiction. So they are not refunding any premiums paid to them.
Can anyone advise if its worth taking to the FOS? Any comments or advice is much appreciated. Cheers:mad:
  • If you post this in the discussion thread I'm sure there will be somebody to give you more advise.
  • Just wanted to share my success in reclaiming PPI. Took the advice from Martin and used a template letter edited to match my situation. I had taken a loan from Sainsburys for £3000 and took the full insurance cover offered. I explained in my letter to the Bank of Scotland that I had not been told that I had alternative ways of covering any insurance required. They sent letters to acknowledge that they were dealing with my case and, after a wait, to my delight I have just recieved cheques totalling £1551.35!!!!!!!!
My monthly instalments have been reduced which has also helped my current outgoings. I have a short time left on the loan and will now see if I can pay it off and save more money!
Martin is a God at the school I work at as he has helped so many people. I can't thank him enough for his help and to the many people who write on the forums which I read for help and inspiration. Good luck to anyone else going through the process. If you aren't sure whether to go for it, as I was, then bite the bullet, it can be worth it!

  • Thank you Thank you Money Saving Expert!

£2,500 successfully refunded from my Egg loan.

I printed off the first template letter and sent off. Within around two weeks the money was in my account. When their letter arrived it said they'd refunded my loan but were still looking into my other account. Who knows, there may be more to come!

    Still chasing A&L and BOS.

    Thanks again.

When I phoned to take out the loan I told Egg I had another policy that would cover me. The guy just kept saying 'how will you pay us if such-and-such happens'. He made out I had no option but to take the PPI.

After reading the site I thought I'll give it a go and just see what happens - SO pleased I did. :j
