Just thought I would update on my story in case it helps anyone else

3 years ago I started a claim against Lloyds TSB insurance for mis sold PPI for a graduate loan I took out. It took nearly 2 years but after them denying my claim 3 times I took it to the FOS who found in my favour and awarded £700.

During that claim I also started a claim for the PPI that was added to my credit card I had at the same time. Due to a mix up at the FOS this was lost and had to be restarted. The bank once again refused the claim and once again the FOS found in my favour. This time however the bank did not accept the FOS findings and it got referred to the Ombudsman. I have had to wait a year but finally the Ombudsman found in my favour and told Lloyds that they must pay £200 for distress and inconvenience plus the PPI and write to me within 8 weeks. Lloyds failed to contact me so I once again contacted the FOS who duly contacted Lloyds- I recieved a letter from them today saying that I was going to receive a payment of £257 for mis sold PPI, notice how they have failed to mention the £200 for distress and inconvenience. I have contacted the FOS again today and they contacted Lloyds once again. The nice man at the FOS has stated that the banks often "forget" about the £200 in the hope that it is not chased.

Anyway I guess what I am saying is DONT GIVE UP and make sure you check all your letters to make sure you receive what you are entitled to.
After 3 1/4 years I am now going to be £1150 better off for some letter writing and it has been due to this website and the people on this forum.

    THANK YOU ALL :O)
    :j:j:j Well done :beer::money:

I took a loan out with hsbc in 2006 for £10,000 over 5 yrs, I was told I could only have the loan if I took the ppi.
I emailed the bank in September I received a letter to say they were investigating my case, I then emailed them again after 8 wks to report I hadn't received a full reply and I knew I was able to now go to the FOS. I have since received another letter informing me I will now receive a full response by the 13 December
Does anybody know what the success rate is like with HSBC?? and if I am sucessful how long do you usually have to wait until you receive any money?

just an update, i received a letter from hsbc today saying they cant offer me a full response at the moment as they feel the banks have been treated unfairly and are now waiting on the outcome of a court case between the bankers association the FSA and the FOS, could any one please advise what to do next?? do i sit and wait or take the complaint further?
  • Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Martin - you wonderful man, you! -

And to all you lovely people who are here to help us along, and have always offered fantastic advise, no matter how silly a question.

I wrote to Santander early Novemeber regarding the PPI on a loan from 2006-present...

I was contacted by them 2 weeks later on the phone to say they had upheld my claim and they would send me a confirmation letter..... they did appx a week later, detailing that I would receive £3,294.60p!

Sure enough I sent the letter back, and in less than I week, the money has been transferred back to me!

So my next job is to find out a settlement figure to pay off the loan completely!

AND ITS ALL THANKS TO YOU! :j:j:j:j:j:j

    CHEERS EVERYONE! XXXXX

    Hi there

    Sorry to hear this.

You can wait if you want to, but you do have the option of making the complaint to the FOS.

Its up to you of course, have a think about it first.

Either way, good luck with this.;)

What a laugh :mad::mad: what about the customers they treated unfairly?
I am sorry to hear this, put a complaint into fos now and send a copy of the letter that hsbc sent you. Then i am afraid it is a waiting game, the judicial reveiw is not till late january, so just sit tight.
  • That's a good point - will put bank charges reclaim on hold until redundant !! Thank you !!

Im in a very similar position to you. started my claim against them in september for an old loan account. They are giving me the run around to say the least...firstly by saying they didnt have any records of the loan and then after me sending them a copy of the agreement which showed the PPI was clearly 'front loaded' denying that the had received any correspondence from me. When I pointed out to them that it was sent recorded delivery they miraculously found it.....and now I wait.
At least they have given you a date.
Good luck & keep us posted please.
    Regards,
    Matty.

I rang HSBC yesterday to find out the position with my claim and was told that they cant give me a timescale for resolving due to the BBA action....blah blah.

That is every ongoing claim now confirmed as being on hold over the last week or so due to the JR.

They have all been on going since September and I have been holding off sending on to FOS 'hoping ' for the banks to carry on looking at claims -:rotfl:

I now realise(woke up at 4am thinking about this) that this is just another opportunity for them to delay the proceess and that once the JR is completed they will simply reject my claims ,forcing me to the FOS anyway, which they know will more than likely take many months to be looked at / resolved.

I have therefore decided to get on with it and lodge them all with the FOS.

    Matty.
