I took a loan out with hsbc in 2006 for £10,000 over 5 yrs, I was told I could only have the loan if I took the ppi.
I emailed the bank in September I received a letter to say they were investigating my case, I then emailed them again after 8 wks to report I hadn't received a full reply and I knew I was able to now go to the FOS. I have since received another letter informing me I will now receive a full response by the 13 December
Does anybody know what the success rate is like with HSBC?? and if I am sucessful how long do you usually have to wait until you receive any money?

    Hi

    I agree with amersall here.

Good luck with this, and I hope its a good outcome.

If successful, they should send you an acceptance to sign, and as soon as they receive this, it may be as little as a fortnight, or maybe 28 days, but I would ask them in case this varies.

    Fingers crossed.:)

  • PPI reclaim: I reclaimed PPI on a £20,000 loan from LloydsTSB. I took the loan out a year before I lost a £10,000 a year contract. I was totally self-employed when I took the loan but was told that because I had two on-going contracts that were essentially full-time work I would be covered. When one contract was taken back inhouse I tried to claim and was told I was ineligible because I was self-employed. I told the bank what I had been told and asked them to remove the PPI. They refused. I ended up with Payplan for several years but finally repaid everything outstanding when my husband was able to claim some of his pension as a cash sum that enabled us to pay off almost everything. I refused to pay the PPI plus the interest I figured had been added because of it. LloydsTSb told me I had no case and refused to remove the outstanding amount. I went tothe Ombudsman and sent my own letters detailing what had happened. I had requests for further information from Lloyds and the Ombudsman but on 8 October received a letter from the Ombudsman ruling in my favour. I received a letter from lloydsTSB dated 23 November detailing what they would pay me minus some because I had repaid early (?). The upshot was I was to get a cheque for £1,101.78 paid into my account. As I no longer have a LloydsTSB account I called to find out where the amount would be deposited and asked if the difference meant that any outstanding on the loan was paid off. I was assured that it was. However a few days later I received a cheque for £6,639.26 from LloydsTSB. The left hand doesn't know what the righthand is doing. I am banking the cheque and waiting for them to ask for the difference back. Any body else had this experience?
    LBM August 2005 £40,000
    25 February 2009 £21662.12
6 January 2010 £6,691 Lloyds PPI including interest.
12 October 2010 Ombudsman says Lloyds to repay me PPI + interest.:j
  • Last year - I contacted EGG regarding mis sold PPI on my EGG credit card. They knocked the £2000.00 off of my bill.:j

Today - I received a cheque for £7125.37 from the FSCS - after claiming against TWOPART LTD (E-LOANS) for two mis sold PPI insurances on loans that I had previously taken out (and since repaid). :T

I followed the advice on this site and for the effort of writing a few letters - which took a couple of hours - I am £9000.00 better off! :rotfl:

Next - I am going to try and claim back my bank charges for the past 6 years - on 2 accounts. I am deemed to be in financial hardship (and have turned to the CCCS for help and guidance - and they have been brilliant) - so I will see if my claims for bank charges are accepted - and will again follow the advice on this site.

With a possible redundancy next March (I am a public service worker, who helps protect school children from drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse - so clearly a waste of tax payers money!!!!) the £7125.37 will sit in an ISA until I know whether or not I am to be made redundant - in which case it will help to pay my mortgage. And if I keep my job (or get a new one) - it will go on paying off some more of my debt.

All I can advise to anyone thinking of claiming back mis-sold PPI - is DO IT!!!!!!

Im in a very similar position to you. started my claim against them in september for an old loan account. They are giving me the run around to say the least...firstly by saying they didnt have any records of the loan and then after me sending them a copy of the agreement which showed the PPI was clearly 'front loaded' denying that the had received any correspondence from me. When I pointed out to them that it was sent recorded delivery they miraculously found it.....and now I wait.
At least they have given you a date.
Good luck & keep us posted please.
    Regards,
    Matty.

Hi there and well done on your win!. If you post up your loan term the ppi total amount, what the ppi was each month, the loan start date and end date, robbedof, who is good with these calculations will help you with this, then you will know what you are due back. The ppi was still on your loan as you were not paying it, so when you settled the loan i assume thay will have given you a rebate of the ppi, this is the amount they have taken off, (if you could post what the settlement was that you paid for this loan, i am sure robbedof will help with this too). Once you know what you are due back, then you know what to spend and what to save for lloyds. Also, when you won mis sell the ppi you owed (that you were not paying) should have been taken off the loan anyway, so the loan would be totally finished.

  • Just thought I would update on my story in case it helps anyone else

3 years ago I started a claim against Lloyds TSB insurance for mis sold PPI for a graduate loan I took out. It took nearly 2 years but after them denying my claim 3 times I took it to the FOS who found in my favour and awarded £700.

During that claim I also started a claim for the PPI that was added to my credit card I had at the same time. Due to a mix up at the FOS this was lost and had to be restarted. The bank once again refused the claim and once again the FOS found in my favour. This time however the bank did not accept the FOS findings and it got referred to the Ombudsman. I have had to wait a year but finally the Ombudsman found in my favour and told Lloyds that they must pay £200 for distress and inconvenience plus the PPI and write to me within 8 weeks. Lloyds failed to contact me so I once again contacted the FOS who duly contacted Lloyds- I recieved a letter from them today saying that I was going to receive a payment of £257 for mis sold PPI, notice how they have failed to mention the £200 for distress and inconvenience. I have contacted the FOS again today and they contacted Lloyds once again. The nice man at the FOS has stated that the banks often "forget" about the £200 in the hope that it is not chased.

Anyway I guess what I am saying is DONT GIVE UP and make sure you check all your letters to make sure you receive what you are entitled to.
After 3 1/4 years I am now going to be £1150 better off for some letter writing and it has been due to this website and the people on this forum.

    THANK YOU ALL :O)
