Yes I paid PPI on both loans. It was frontloaded onto them and I have all the origional paperwork that I submitted copies of when I first made the complaint. The loans were paid off in full in 1999 and I never made a claim on the PPI. I know it is a long time ago but surely if I have all the origional paperwork they cannot dispute that I paid it. I suppose it is actually a question of their word against mine. I know I never asked for PPI and was led to believe that it was part of the loan. I was also never asked if I had alternative cover, which I did through work. This is so annoying, particularly as it has taken the FOS over a year to get this far and only now is it going to an adjudicator. When they called me in January and asked a number of questions they said then that it was going to an adjudicator! Not sure if I can go through another year of this!
I have written to the CEO of RBS and the FOS and will keep you posted.
    Thanks for all your support.
Hi there, good luck with this, it is disgusting that you have proof you paid this and they still wont budge. Keep on at the ceos and dont stop until you get a result and let them know you are not prepared to wait for another 12 months.x

    Reporting a success! -

Company - Norton Finance (Norton Insurance Services)

    Amount - Just over £9000

Timeline of reclaim - Sent 1st letter May 2009 - rejected by Norton, upheld by FOS adjudicator Nov 2009 - ignored by Norton, upheld by FOS ombudsman Apr 2010, finally received cheque today :j

Thanks to all here for their support as well as to all on LB - I couldn't have done this without you!
:j:jAt last :money: Well done to you

I won loans from the 90s and others on here have too, some even further back than that.

Thanks that is encouraging. Had this from the FOS this morning:

In response to your emails I can confirm that in January your file was allocated to my team which deals with cases where the firm has made an offer. As explained previously, we were under discussion with RBS regarding the type of offer where they would only refund the last 6 years PPI premiums when in fact no premiums had been paid during this period. Unfortunately this has taken longer than expected to sort out, with the result being that RBS are not willing to change their stance and we must now complete a full adjudication. Your file will be passed to another team who deal with this, but I cannot give any timescales for progression of your case as this will depend on the information we already have on file and any further information that the adjudicator requires from yourself or RBS.

I was not even aware that RBS had made an offer...complete waste of time though as the paperwork I sent them regarding the loans clearly shows they were paid off in full in1999. What I want to know is if they offerred to pay back PPI from the last six years surely they are admitting that the policy was missold and as such should refund the premiums no matter how long ago they were paid. What other banks have people had success with going back to the 90s?
  • Hi Guys

Its been a while since I popped in to say hi!! Just to let you know I have (3 weeks ago) received a letter from the FOS in my favour v MBNA for ppi on my credit card dating back to 2001!! I know I had paid 2000 pounds in PPI from mid 2006 so hopefully I will get back a nice sum of money. I have phoned MBNA to find out when I will get this money and just keep getting the same phone monkey everytime who says that the department I need to speak to have no phones !!!! Has anyone got any information that may help me contact someone to push this through ? Any information would be great

    FANTASTIC.

How long did it take as I have one with MBNA that went to the FOS about four weeks ago.

    Egg Success!!

I was called a few weeks ago by a company that claims PPI back and after checking the boards, I decided to try it myself on Egg. I have now had an offer in writing for £1100 on the Egg credit card, which is all the PPI plus 8% interest, and a verbal offer of £3100 on my loan (to be put in writing to me tomorrow), which will clear it in full. This will free up about £250 per month for us which is a lifesaver.

Thanks all for your help and will keep you informed on the others.
  • Hi all.

I have also started a new thread with this as I wasn't sure of the best place to post to get a quick response. Apologies if that is bad etiquette.

After 3 years since my first letter, I heard from the Financial Ombudsmen regarding the PPI claim that I made from Norton (loan with First Plus), they agreed with me that PPI was mis-sold and that I would hear from Norton within 3 months regarding my refund.

I got a letter from Norton today. They claim that the have contacted First Plus and that they were told I had cancelled my PPI in the first 30 days and a full refund applied to the loan account so no refund is due and that my file has been closed by them on this matter.

    1. I have NEVER cancelled this insurance.
    2. Surely if the insurance had been cancelled, regardless of by whom, the capital amount would have been reduced?

Here are some figures, I am hoping that someone familiar with working these things out can help me so that I can call First Plus and challenge them:

    Amount of Credit: £66000
    PPP Loan: 13153.80
    Total: 79153.80

    Monthly repayments:
    Cash Loan: 598.44
    PPP Loan: 119.27
    Total: 717.71

    Number of repayments: 300
    APR: 10.4% (variable)

    Interest Rate (variable): 9.97%

My current payments are: £762 per month (they have been as high as £814 a couple of years back)

My current balance (taken from my credit report) is: £76882.00

I have stepped through every payment made (also logged on my credit report) and at no point did the end figure represent any difference as should have surely been made had the PPI been paid back).

I have made exactly 48 payments (4 years).

Am I missing something really obvious or are they trying to con me into leaving this and just walking away?

If anyone at all can help me with some ammunition for my phone call, I would really appreciate it very much. If anyone can also see something that I am missing, I would equally appreciate it. If you could also let me know what I need to ask for as proof of what I am paying for (breakdown etc) that would also be great.

I am at my wits end. I can't go back and start all over again. I am reeling from the shock and feel that this is very much unjustified.

Many thanks to all of you.

Thanks amersall - this almost brings to an end my reclaiming, apart from some credit card and mortgage charges and I couldn't have done any of it without the help of sites such as this :D
