PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

:beer::jHello all,
What were you reclaiming: 1 Loan Protection insurance policies.
Who was the provider:Egg
How much did you get back: £3184.00
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman:After one letter and the questionaire sent together as suggested by this site!
I reclaimed PPI on a loan for £10K that I took out 5 years ago (for a total of 7 years).
I followed the advice on this site and wrote them a letter and filled in the questionarie which I also sent to them. This was about 1 month ago. Within two weeks I got an acknowledgment letter saying they were investigating - was expecting the full 8 weeks to pass before I got a response so I was delighted to get home today to find this wonderful surprise on the doorstep - they have agreed to pay it all back plus interest which will leave a very small balance which I intend to pay off!
Thanks to everyone (and Martin) at this site and everyone who has posted on this issue - I am just so stunned on how much I am getting back.

I am a newbie on here - and my current financial situation has lead me to look into where I have been ripped off so many times over the last few years.
I am not proud of where I am today, but I have 2 credit cards and 2 loans, all of which I have been PPI on. Loans are with Loans.co.uk and Lloyds, and credit cards are Lloyds and Capital One - any advice from anyone who has claimed from these would be helpful
I am looking at PPI claims for all of these - but just wondered where I stood.
My Husband lost his job last year, and I am in arrears with all of these - and have agreed payment plans with them, which I have stuck to religiously - will this affect my PPI claim?
Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated0 -

Hi and welcome
For a start if you have a replayment plan and are still paying for the ppi within the debt, its now worthless to you.
I take it your hubby did not make a successful claim when he lost his job?
Sorry to hear of his job loss, I remember being in the same situation and its not nice at all, hope things improve for you soon.
Now with whatever reasons you do have, give it a go.
You do this by pursuing the ones who set up and sold you the policy, you can do this by either writing your own letter in your own words, or use the FOS PPI reclaiming questionnaire (this replaced the first reclaiming template) on this site.
If you write a letter, as long as you have the account number then you can continue to make a reclaim with your reasons.
The ones you paying payment plans with, make them aware that the policy is now also worthless to you because of the difficulties and your not able to make a claim by using the policy.
So if you decide to write a letter:
Request for a refund of PPI and interest.
Give your reasons of reclaiming (also mention about the policy being worthless as stated above).
Tell them they have 8 weeks to give a decision.
Then confirm if you do not receive a favourable decision you will consider taking your complaint to the financial ombudsman service (FOS) for investigation.
If you want to complete the stated questionnaire, you will find this on below link - further on down the page as stage one.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
Not to confuse this questionnaire with the FOS complaints form.
So complete - send to whoever is responsible for mis selling, and remember to keep a copy in case you need to refer to this later on.
So do either of the above or even both if you want to.;)
Lots on here have dealt with those companies you have stated, I have had a few with Lloyds, and you should be okay, just keep at them and keep us posted, ask for other help when needed, good luck.:)
Also just to add, this will not affect your claim, but if your successful, the refund is normally awarded towards any arrears, anything remaining plus interest should be refunded directly to you.The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Gordie1975,
Congratulations on your claim, how long did it take the Ombudsman to complete the investigation?
Also on what grounds were you mis-sold the PPI?
I have a similar case against LloydsTSB, only for Credit Card PPI. I referred the case to the Ombudsman last week, just curious how long the wait is.0 -

Hi Ian
With my Lloyds TSB Credit Card PPI that was within the FOS, I cannot remember the defo timescale, but about 7 months rings the bell, with my hubby's it taken longer because lloyds ignored the adjudicators decision, so it was then moved on to the ombudsman himself, and if taken well over a year or more, but they are moving on quicker now than before.
I would call it about 6 months.;)
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

How much did you get back: £2995 plus a £300 reduction of the loan amount.
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman:I wrote to Lloyds, they refused, i went to the ombudsman, and eventually Lloyds changed their mind and payed out.
Finally all went through today, got £2995 plus i got my loan amount reduced by £300.
Lloyds Initially claimed the policies were not mis-sold, i went to the ombudsman, the adjudicator said they were and recomended Lloyds pay up, and they did!!!
Only cost me the press of 2 or 3 letters in total, very easy to do, i recommend everyone thinking about it, just do it, you have nothing but the cost of a stamp to lose!!!
Thank you to everyone on here who has helped, Thank you all so much!!:A
I have now, today cleared off my largest loan, and cleared off my credit card, and still have a few hundred ££££ spare.
I may book a nice little winter getaway with the money left.:j0 -

Hi there
You could try by requesting copies of your agreements, write a simple letter, enclose £1 cheque or postal order and request they supply by 12-14 days.
You can try to retrieve account numbers by checking online banking - if you do online banking where you paid for the repayments, the account number should be shown next to the payments, and should allow you to go back about 7 years online.
The other way which is dearer is to request a Subject access request (SAR), you enclose £10 cheque or postal order and they have 40 calendar days to comply.
SAR letter template here.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553
However, if you loans were with your bank, only one SAR is required, and you only then give your bank account number for the SAR request.
Otherwise if different companies a separate SAR is required.;)
Ask for any other help if required. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
