having read this web site, i wrote off to the halifax to reclaim the PPI on:
1. an unsecured loan
2. a secured loan
3. a credit card.
all of which i had paid off after selling my house.
at first the halifax said no and that i agreed to the PPI
i then went to the ombudsman who took up my case.
after a few months i received a letter for each claim from the ombudsman saying the halifax had agreed to a refund as a good will gesture. this letter didnt say how much but as it seemed to go on and on i agreed to this good will gesture.
i received £2500 for the unsecure loan last week and this morning i received £3700 for my credit card. i am still waiting for the repayment of PPI for the secured loan but expect to receive it any day now.
my advise, send the letters and keep going all the way. the worst thing that can happen is the ombudsman could say no. you will not loose anything but could gain a lot. thanks martin0 -

Hi there,
Halifax will try to get out of paying you whatever, just said was not mis-sold but i knew damn well it was so took it to FOS. Also, got two letters to say expect more money, unbelievably! £300 for Halifax and £500 for Sainsburys loan so an extra £800 in 8% on top of what i'm already getting, so over four grand! My advice, just stick with it and go get 'em! Oh and just to add, also have a claim in about Halifax Credit card and when i reng RBOS customer services, she thought it was for my CC claim which is still with ombudsman- apparantly, they put aside money because they know that more often than not they'll have to pay out, but, in gestures of goodwill, you understand!
Good luck all, fingers crossed!

Unfortunatley a couple of years back I started to fall behind with the payments due to my divorce which obviously changed my circumstances. As we all know Halifax are a lovely bunch of people and they transferred my account to Connaught Collections
I have just looked at my agreement and a print out from Halifax and it states "Insurance Required - Yes (Unsecured)" this is basically saying they would only give me the loan if I took out their insurance. On the agreement it reads:
"Cash Loan - £5,500
Total Charge for Credit for cash loan - £1655.18
Total amount you pay - £7155.18
Insurance loan - £1209.73
Total charge for credit for insurance loan - £364.01
Total amount you pay for insurance loan - £1573.74
The Loan - £6709.73
Total Charge for Credit - £2019.19
total amount you pay - £8728.92"
Can I claim this PPI back? If so how do I go about it do I approach halifax or Connaught Collections?
Yes Jimmy go for it.
If they said you can only have the loan if you accepted the insurance then this is mis selling and besides it may not have covered you or you could have had optional cover elsewhere at a cheaper option.
Go for the reclaim template on here and give it a go, and don't give up if you receive a letter of them denying this, because this is only the start, we can then move on to more serious stuff to get them to pay out what they owe you due to them mis selling this to you.;)
If you need some guidance just give us a yell.:D
