PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Thanks to this site and advice, i successfully reclaimed £5,013.10 PPI mis-sold to me on loan.

In 2005, i took out a loan with Yorkshire Bank and the advisor told me the PPI was added because I had no other cover in place at the time, I wasn't given the option to decline and felt it was needed in order to have the loan. After reading the advice and forums on this site, i decided to use the template and write to the bank. Of course, they advised that it wasn't mis-sold and therefore refused to my claim. I then took my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman who upheld it. It took a total of sixteen month's to get the money but it was finally paid into my account last week!

I would recommend anyone who has been mis-sold PPI, to submit their claim as soon as possible using the templates provided on this site.

Once again, a big thank you! :)

They are not allowed to treat you unfairly, put your claim in and take it from there, tbh i havent heard of anyone having this done , although i could be wrong.

    • What were you reclaiming: Loan
    • Who was the provider: Alliance & Leicester (now Santander)
    • How much did you get back: £2800
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Used an agency called Gladstone Brookes
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
Saw an advert on TV for mis-sold PPI and thought it would be worth a shot as I did remember trying to take the PPi off many years ago and was told I could not...

I know that I should have done the work myself however I was not a member of MSE at that point and so paid some £800 in commission that I need not have done...

Just goes to show what a little research and a forum like this can save you!!!

If i am correct with what you say, the 13500 comes off the loan, your in laws get £130, times the months they paid this, plus interest on those payments, if fp give goodwill you dont get the 8% if they say you were mis sold you get the 8%.Even so that is a nice sum to get back, and the bonus is the monthly payment will drop by £130 and they will not be paying interest on the ppi as it is removed.Good for you for doing this and keep us posted.

That sums it up amersall :T

    Well done Pinger2006.

    Hi Julie

As amersall says they must treat you fairly and follow the lending code, otherwise you can complain to the regulators, such as The Office of Fair Trading in short OFT.

Its possibly they are playing ball, but you could write and tell them "as a customer your to be treated fairly" and tell them to check the lending code, also state you will complain as in your rights to be treated in any unfair manner.;)
