many tnx for the reply, glentoran99, much appreciated. i should have added that when i got the card, and it is the original one as far as i remember, valid until July 2018, i did download and install the app on my phone. however, i need to download it again as i have changed and got rid of the old phone. i hope i dont have as much trouble as i did when i first started this game however long ago it was. we'll see.0

well, that was fun. Play didn't see my phone then wouldn't let me have the app as i had downloaded it on the old phone (no longer got so couldn't uninstall it). anyway, all good now except the settings have gone haywire in the card and it wont let me turn it off!. all sent to try us, they say0

got another question for you, if you dont mind.
when i used my ordinary credit card to buy goods from abroad, the amount is always changed so i get a p**s poor exchange rate by the credit card company when they convert the currency to sterling. so, regardless of where i am, you advise to pay in the currency of the country i'm buying the goods from. will that not do the same thing as above, ie, get a rubbish exchange rate when the real card company exchanges the price to sterling?0 -

ok. maybe they are trying to encourage us to use the card in the UK all the time as well as abroad? if it's saving us money, so be it!0

i just wanted to understand why to make the purchases in 'local currency' if the 'real' card company then exchanges the currency to sterling at their most selfish rates.
i appreciate the info you've given me, glentoran990
