• seren, your post to homealone just had howling with laughter. from now on I will always add extra os to pooooooooooooo. I know it's juvenile but does that word ever stop being funny? Homealone, don't be disheartened. Seren has offered some excellent advice and I think there are more than a few people on the thread who have similar issues with weight gain resulting from accidents and prescriptions. They'll offer you lots of really useful advice, the rest of us will just be here to make you giggle. Ajax will definitely make you giggle when he stops feeling so bad about his birthday feast. Knowing Ajax he'll be reporting in next week having lost all the extra plus some. He's a very determined chap . . . ..

P10, I like your idea of having superpowers. I've always liked the psychic stuff myself too - my favourite comic book character is Emma Frost of the XMen who is a psychic. MY OH says I already have a mutant power though - I speedread so fast it's scary. GLad to hear that Hiro has another fan too Petrichor - there's a great interview with him in this months FHM. OH insists that he bought it because it 'has an interview with a veteran of Passchendale' but I think it's because of the pics of Claire the regenerating cheerleader.

Suggs, thanks for not spoiling for us! And of course you are the hero of the thread, that goes without saying. So whats your power?

I checked the phases of the moon and it was a new moon at weekend so that must be what messed us all up. The next one is the 14th of October so we'll have to be good on that date to make up for it. It's the fancy dress party this weekend - you all gave me lots of good ideas for carry on costumes but they widened the theme to be 'great British comedy' so I'm going as Holly from Red Dwarf.

Sorry to hear this homealone - I am in the same boat being in chronic pain, do you find that everything the diet sites tell you to do exercise wise just makes everything worse, therefore more pain killers?

definitely, trouble is i am on max medication as it is so there is no extra. barely leave my bedroom most days so its a catch 22. seeing a lady in pain management which i thought would help but trying to imagine my pain having a volume knob which i should turn down when in agony doesnt seem to be doing the trick

Vixtress, have you considered the Tesco ediet? You pay £29.99 for 10 weeks but get 1000 points back. I've been on it for 7 weeks and I've lost 20lbs. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for in a diet. Personally I like to be told *exactly* what to eat, then I have great will power as I simply don't eat anything else. Gimme a choice and I will always cheat/go for the worst option. Whereas my brother (who weighs something like 30 stone) couldn't handle that kind of restriction and would need a diet where he could eat lots of "free" food.
Its a really personal decision, what's right for one person may not be right for the next. I know I've been trying to lose weight on and off for the last five years and this is the only thing that has worked for me (including trying SW and WW)
I wish you well in your quest for being flab free :j

• Hang in there Homealone! it is hard not being able to use exercise to kick start a weightloss. and congratulations on being brave enough to come onto the thread and acknowledge that you're down...best place to be on here!

I have a few suggestions you might like to try out...you could draw up an action plan and then discuss it with your GP.

1. start keeping a food diary (it really does help weed out the sneaky things which creep in)
2. If your a Snackadactyl then try making a fruit salad to keep in the fridge (fruit will also help get the poo train moving)
3. Try not to feel too disheartened with falling off the wagon, you just have to own it and start again...finding the courage to face up to needing to lose weight is half the battle.
4. Try adding a few more weigh in dates if you weigh your self at home (same place, time, clothes etc) that way you can keep yourself on track easier than finding out you've been going in the wrong direction for a month.
5. If you're a boredom snacker like me then distract yourself with little things...painting nails etc...
6. It doesn't sound like you'd be up to much exercise but any extra activity will count (sit in bed and wiggle your fingers!)
7. Keep popping by this thread its incredibly useful, full of tips and nice peeps (and the dreaded bitey boot)

ooooh...I've reached point seven...lets see if I can make it to 10...
8. you say you've put on 0.5kg but you are focusing on the wrong thing...you have lost 3kg....hang on let me convert it...about 6.6lbs? so you've already lost half a stone!!....Woooooooo!! ...hang on...0.5 kg is about 1 lbs...stop worrying it's all retained water and poooooooooooooo
9. Keep up with the paul mcKenna it is working for you just try and incorporate a few more ideas to help it along
10. Remember it took you a long time to gain the weight it will be a while before you reach your target the main thing is to keep trying and focus...if you've read the thread today you'll know that we all fell off the wagon (quietly ignoring the smug peeps reporting goody two-shoe behaviour and sporting massive losses) but we're all back on here starting on day one...

don't know if that helps any....

Oh and drink lots of warm water it'll get you on the bog in no time!

hi seren

a simple tick in the thanks box wont cover how i felt reading your post. thanks for the tips, just having someone read and answer made me feel bit better. am going to sit on my ball later for 10 minutes which i more than i have done for weeks and needed to be in wheelchair most of weekend with pain so got hardly any exercise. used to walk around 12500 steps a day before accident measured other day and only managed 46 so bit of a difference and yes am definitely a comfort eater. gp visit wednesday so may have done better than i think if i keep to it till then, will keep you posted

Thats the spirit....
do you time yourself when you sit on your ball? try making yourself stay there an extra ten seconds when you next sit there...by the time you think you can't do it then you would have done it...(put some music on and sing very loudly to distract from the pain maybe?)

Someone nearly always answers on this thread...and if you feel your post has been missed then just cut and paste it into a new post and put it in a larger font :D
