Sorry you didn't have a good time with your kids Suggs - that must be so hard to let them go without things being right between you all.

Well done Annie: you star flash1.gif and to you newlywed :T .

Hardly got any sleep last night so feel ghastly. And meeting in laws for coffee today, which always takes a super human effort, groan :D . Tricky situation of not definitely NOT waning to let on to m-i-l I am trying to lose weight, and yet managing to turn down her insistance I have something fatty and sugary with my coffee without her taking it personally.

Wondered why you were so quiet last week Ajax! Still, you are very good at getting it off quickly (ooh er missis :D )

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Low fat or Low cals?

    Hello
I went on a little binge over the weekend - I noticed that a lot of the low fat snacks (pretzels, crackers etc) are higher cals then crisps
So whats best to avoid fat or calories?

    thanks
I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something

    Hello,
In my opinion it should be a little bit of both. You have to have a certain amount of fat just try and concentrate on having the healthier version (unsaturated). I think sometimes I'd rather eat something with a little fat in it that something thats relies on sugar to make it more interesting. I guess a combination to try and strike a balance would work. If you absolutely have to have something thats normally high in fat then try the lower fat option or if it is a proper taste sacrifice then have the normal version but maybe a bit less.

Not sure if thats helped at all...sounds confusing even to me reading it back!

anyhow...here's a link explaining good fats and bat fats

  • i only get weighed once a month by gp so have not been on here since 20 aug when i had gained 0.5 kg of the 3.5 kgs i had lost month before. last time i weighed myself on scales ay home was about 17 stone. well weighed myself last night and it looks like i have gained more now says 17. 5 stone. wont know for definite till wednesday when gp appointment but must admit feel very disheartened this morning after binging most of weekend since weighing myself, knew it was a bad idea. i do feel lighter though and clothes feeling looser so think have lost inches as apposed to pounds. was doing the paul mckenna i can make you thin which i then is very good and makes perfect sense and is long term achievable but now feeling maybe its not enough. am also taking xenical tabs from gp but not having much success with them. on large doses of morphine due to back which makes you constipated, which always had problem with anyway so this had made it worse. am just feeling so down about it all. have gained almost 5 stone since hurting back in 2003 and never been this big. think i need a real kick up bum or something. not being able to exercise doesnt help and have 3 wardrobes of clothes that dont feel. have the major monthly blues too. sorry if sound so depressing but i really just want to stay in bed for week am in so much pain with back too at moment which not helping. what can i do?

Depends how good your motivation and self-control are. I have to go to meetings otherwise I'd fail.

A lot of parents bring their children to my Slimming World meeting.
  • Hi

As previous poster says, children do come to meetings I've been to. Would that be an option for you?

Otherwise, there are lots of resources available on WW website without paying, but you can't get as many recipes or use the online points calculator/tracker. This is what I find useful so for me it is worth it (although I do have a formula for calculating points so can do it on my own excel spreadsheet but then I have to faff with memory stick if I want to access at home and work - website is there wherever I am).

They have just launched a new type of membership - a monthly pass I think - which means you can go to meetings and access the full online stuff. This is cheaper than previous combined access.

Good luck in your weight loss

  • Hang in there Homealone! it is hard not being able to use exercise to kick start a weightloss. and congratulations on being brave enough to come onto the thread and acknowledge that you're down...best place to be on here!

I have a few suggestions you might like to try out...you could draw up an action plan and then discuss it with your GP.

    1. start keeping a food diary (it really does help weed out the sneaky things which creep in)
    2. If your a [SIZE=-1]Snackadactyl then try making a fruit salad to keep in the fridge (fruit will also help get the poo train moving)
    3. Try not to feel too disheartened with falling off the wagon, you just have to own it and start again...finding the courage to face up to needing to lose weight is half the battle.
    4. Try adding a few more weigh in dates if you weigh your self at home (same place, time, clothes etc) that way you can keep yourself on track easier than finding out you've been going in the wrong direction for a month.
    5. If you're a boredom snacker like me then distract yourself with little things...painting nails etc...
    6. It doesn't sound like you'd be up to much exercise but any extra activity will count (sit in bed and wiggle your fingers!)
    7. Keep popping by this thread its incredibly useful, full of tips and nice peeps (and the dreaded bitey boot)

ooooh...I've reached point seven...lets see if I can make it to 10...
    8. you say you've put on 0.5kg but you are focusing on the wrong thing...you have lost 3kg....hang on let me convert it...about 6.6lbs? so you've already lost half a stone!!....Woooooooo!! ...hang on...0.5 kg is about 1 lbs...stop worrying it's all retained water and poooooooooooooo
    9. Keep up with the paul mcKenna it is working for you just try and incorporate a few more ideas to help it along
    10. Remember it took you a long time to gain the weight it will be a while before you reach your target the main thing is to keep trying and focus...if you've read the thread today you'll know that we all fell off the wagon (quietly ignoring the smug peeps reporting goody two-shoe behaviour and sporting massive losses) but we're all back on here starting on day one...

don't know if that helps any....

Oh and drink lots of warm water it'll get you on the bog in no time!

  • Sorry to hear this homealone - I am in the same boat being in chronic pain, do you find that everything the diet sites tell you to do exercise wise just makes everything worse, therefore more pain killers?

    Thanks for the replies.
taking the kids wouldnt be an option for me now (they are only little and meetings are at night).
what exactly do i get for my money, it seems the 3 months for £50 is not a bad price, otherwise its £40 for the first month then £10 monthly after.
i am hoping that paying for the 3 months might motivate me to use it! i seem to need somthing to focus on, i have a good knowledge of nutrition and know exactly what i SHOULD be eating but i love cooking (am usually to be found on the O/S board) and cant motivate myself without some real direction.
silly, i know but i love to eat!!

If you don't work I know that SW do classes during the day - not sure about WW sorry! £50 sounds like a good price though - works out £4.16 a week.

    Good luck though!
