It is right what has been said about WW being all about veg and hammered for the rice, pasta, potatoes, I do like veg soup though and it has 0 points so I normally use that for lunch, 3 points for porridge with skimmed milk for breakfast, then 0 for lunch, 1/2 point for an apple, 1 point for a banana, so usually by the time dinner comes I have points to play with but was looking at WW time to cook book and wanted lasagna which is 8 1/2 points, I am not going to make that because I think that is high in points, thought about reducing the pasta to maybe bring the points down and omit the cheese but then decided I could not be bothered with all that so chose sweet and sour haddock which is 2 points but I have where it says serves 2 both portions so that makes it 4 points....

I find WW works very well if you follow it, if you can tell by eye the portion sizes, if you make smart choices where the points are low but the food is filling, I need to be controlled portion wise because that is what got me huge in the furst place, not knowing how and when to stop and not stopping so SW would not work for me with unlimited pasta, rice and pots, I would eat and eat and never give up!!!

I do both though a combination of calories always choose the lowest, less fat, less sugar, less sat fat, less calories and WW points, the soups are a godsend, very filling and 0 points, for breakfast it is either shreddies, weetabix or porridge oatsosimple sachets that already worked out for you so are very simple, fruit for snacks, dinner from WW and ryvita crackers and sugar free jelly in the evening...

I tried sainsburys be good to yourself paprika rice with chicken, 389 calories last night for dinner it was awful, rice that had been spiced, dry with a few chunks of chicken, it was a waste of points, calories, only ate half of it, I AM now cooking fresh again where you know what salt has gone into it, you know it is fresh has no fat, no sugar and is healthy and good for you...

The added bonus of the veg is that going to the loo is never a problem:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

.....then you're someone for whom SW very definitely would work victory as you can eat as much of that stuff as you want to. Trust me, I did and still lost 4 and a half stone :D . The only thing you'd have to do is limit the meat if you wanted the unlimited rice/pasta etc.

Both WW and SW evidently work very well if you stick to them - if they didn't then they simply wouldn't have lasted so long. I dunno about WW but SW has been going since the 1960s !!

....THIS is my big problem with WW. As the fresh carby stuff is out, that kind of steers you down the roads of plastic processed food (co-incidentally  , something WW make A LOT of). When you work a 12 hour shift and have to fit travelling into work and back and sleeping into that then there is precious little time left to be starting to cook and plan vege meals for the next day.

I think preparation has to be done to keep the weight off, it is so terribly easy to pop something in the mouth that is full of sugar etc for speed but if time is really hard pushed once a week cook a job lot and freeze it for the coming week, preparation is vital to the weight loss, plan a week ahead meals, cook a week ahead meals and take them out of the freezer each day and by a week ahead ingredients and don't deviate from them produces a huge weight loss...

I think you're right, definitely from a 'healthy' point of view. Fresh is always best, which is why cous cous and rice and potatoes are so vital.

From a WL point of view there will be folks who have said they have produced those same huge losses through eating a lot of WW plastic processed food - after all a points value is a points value and WW works, so really preparation isn't vital to weight loss.

A bit like the SW conundrum where you would think it impossible to get huge losses with a 5000 or more cals a day intake, but folks do it all the time, even when they are not huge to start with.

If only this WL malarkey made any sense huh?

Maybe this is the difference between Americans and Brits?

    The Core Plan
In part as a response to the popularity of plans like Atkins and South Beach, Weight Watchers has recently developed a separate plan, known as the Core Plan. This plan classifies certain types of food as "core," and permits participants to eat core foods with the restriction that they should only eat these foods "until satisfied, not full." Core foods are a list of healthy foods from all the food groups, including fruits, vegetables, fat free dairy, lean meats, and whole grains. Non-core foods are assigned the usual point values, and participants are given an allotment of 35 non-core points that they can eat in a week.

    .... here it's 21 points

    Hi folks
Well, I did the unthinkable and gave up before them and went to my bed at about 4.15am. :rolleyes:They say that 3 of them fell asleep at about 6.30 and the fourth about 7.30 (what does one 13yo get out of staying awake an extra hour when all others are asleep?) but house is still relatively in one piece and all children still alive.:D Now all suitably stuffed with bacon, turkey rashers, sausage, beans, tinned tomatoes, eggs, toast, juice, tea/coffee - it's like running a greasy spoon caf here this morning. Still, it is a bday sleepover - breakfast here is usually toast/cereal/fruit combo's.
Needless to say I too ate of the above:o but restricted myself to one egg (fried:o ), one small sausage, 1 rasher bacon, 1 turkey rasher and copious amounts of caffeine. Clearly this ought to a SW day! On the good side that was def brunch rather than breakfast and all boys now talking about going to watch some football locally so will go for a long walk whilst they are away!

Feeling suitably humbled by all the talk of preparation above so may fish out some cookbooks today and get preparing. Ajax, can you really eat 5000 cals/day on SW and lose? Sounds totally impossible! If so, what on Earth made you change to WW? Have now decided I def need to get a SW book so am off to look on Ebay etc

Right - off to try to catch a rabbit. (Have let DD go out then remembered I need her to get into the small places he hides in under tables etc so could be fun - very small rabbit, not small mum - may have to borrow one of the boys b4 they go the footie!)

    Bye

... oh easily conceivable. You can have as much food that's free on your day as you can eat. The only advice they give you is to eat what makes you comfortable, not to binge point.

    3 things :-

    - knew the plan off by heart so go stuck in a rut. That leads to the second reason.....

    - .... because familiarity breeds contempt, it has hard to stay motivated to stay within syn values. After 2 years of being punished (syn-wise) for wine and bread, I really craved them so would reguarly double my allowed syns just to have a bottle of wine.

    - my wife wanted to, and it was practical to move with her. Now she's umming and arring

I dunno how best to say this katyk, so I'll just jump right in, but have fun with your rabbit this afternoon

Darn - boys have now decided against footie - something to do with being tired....

Means I cannot go long walkies (not brave enough to leave 4 of them in house and all are with me until early this evening)
