I tried WW for a while (got the book off a friend) and it drove me up the wall counting everything...especially when it came to cooking (think this book still had points for fruit and veg).
... preparation (well, being disciplined enough to do preparation) is the problem with the soup. Again, I'm more phlegmatic than her when it comes to accepting compromises.
Fruit and (a lot of) veg still are pointed on WW.0 -
ajaxgeezer wrote: ».... taking couscous as an example, WW says a portion is 60g for three points. Last night I weighed out what I would use for myself on a normal SW day and it was four times that. She would have less than me, but still a good 6 points worth which is quite a big chunk out of 24. Potatoes are the real killer though - we'd love coming home from weigh in and having sausages, wedges and beans (+ eggs in my case). That lot would be a good 12 points for her and you only get 24. I actually think it's just hit her that there's no way to do this without making compromises.
There's the thing. I believe that most WW members manage the programme by filling up on veggies. If you want sausages/beans/chips that's a high point meal for not much return. - Yes, you do have to make HUGE compromises but it's a great way to learn portion control.
I was going to suggest instead of weighing potatoes that you should buy a potato scoop. It's usually 1/2 point for one scoop (unless you mash with butter - 1 point per scoop) but you're talking about wedges so I don't really know. Are SW style wedges not quite low in points? I know that regular potatoes are. And baked beans - are they not 1 point for 3 tablespoons? You guys must have HUGE plates (buy smaller ones, it does help!).
The only other thing I can suggest is to follow the info on hunger/satisfaction signals in the book (around the place where the core plan is). You find that once you begin to recognise these signals, it's very difficult to go back to over eating.
Sorry, just wanted to add - you're only supposed to weigh food for a period of time and then learn to recognise what that portion looks like. If you plateau then go back to weighing. It's why WW have the info in the book about what portion of rice/meat etc. looks like.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -

As for the monoboob Ajax - have you never seen a large chested girl wearing a polo neck jumper.?... that huge lump of chest under the jumper is called a monoboob (instead of wearing a v-neck which does the job of the old fashioned playtex bras).Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0

....she's a carb queen, veggies are something to be tolerated along with the good stuffdellybelly wrote: »I was going to suggest instead of weighing potatoes that you should buy a potato scoop. ..... 100g per point for basic potato I think, and SW wedges are just basic potato in fry light and spices or whatever. That's still 4 or 5 points of spudsdellybelly wrote: »And baked beans - are they not 1 point for 3 tablespoons?
... does anyone measure beans in tablespoons? :rotfl: For me there are two portion sizes of beans - a can or half a can. Is that not how everyone does it?dellybelly wrote: »You guys must have HUGE plates (buy smaller ones, it does help!).
.... I don't think so really? Just that sausages, eggs chips and beans go together so well, and they are all free on SW but all hammered on WW. A lot of points in one meal. That's fair enough as it's swings/roundabouts, SW is far harsher when it comes to bread and alcohol.
I personally am ok with it, I just eat different foods. To be honest on work days I find myself having half a bottle of vino rosso just to get near my points allowance.
Ah, Bachelors pasta and sauce is her big thing. Free on SW, 7.5 points per packet (1/3rd of daily allowance) on WW. I was selfish saying couscous really, as that's MY big love. Pasta is hers.dellybelly wrote: »The only other thing I can suggest is to follow the info on hunger/satisfaction signals in the book (around the place where the core plan is). ... I saw that. It didn't apply to me, and doesn't suit her. If she's hungry in the morning then she has to stay hungry until lunchtime. Absolutely no food to be consumed at the desk at her work, not even an apple.0 -

Can she not allow herself a bigger portion of cereal for breakfast? There's no way I'd eat only 30g of most cereals but I find that 50g keeps me going until lunch for an extra point/half point. Shreddies is usually a good option.
It sounds like you OH is used to SW portions all right. Serendis's suggestion of the soup sounds like a good idea until your OH gets accustomed to the portion control aspect of WW. It's a great way to fill in and I definitely WOULDN'T use stock cubes to make it. Try vegetable bouillion (still free I think) it gives soup a much better flavour.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
Ajax gotta go get DS ready, OH is taking him to a kiddies indoor adventure playground this morning (he's having a lie in at the mo.) and when they leave I'm going to relax with a book. Don't work too hard.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0

.... I do that but she has toast, not really a fan of cereal. I love the WW cereal with the raspberries in. Expensive at £2 (or was it £3) a box but tres nice.dellybelly wrote: »It sounds like you OH is used to SW portions all right. ... I should have said when serendis mentioned it. They have no microwave at her work and Thermoses are only SO good.0
