General Q on this. I have Sky, but do not pay any extra for HD. If I buy this TV, will the 'upscaling' give me the sort of picture (on Sky or Freeview), that I am looking at in shops ?
eg if I was watching Coronation Street (I know -sad), on Sky, in SD (Standard Definition ?), WOULD I get a stunning UHD/4K picture or would I have t pay extra to Sky for HD and watch Coro on an HD channel.?
An afterthought... as the tv has a Freeview HD tuner, then if I watch on Freeview (rare), I would get Freeview upscaled to 4K, but if I watch on Sky, I wouldn't......?????
thanks

If you are not paying for Sky HD then upscaling from SD channels will not be particularly exciting experience, as many of the SD channels are highly compressed and don't look good on a 1080p set anyway -for second part of the Q, I presume that the TV will be optimised to offer the best possible picture from internal Freeview HD tuner.0

thanks Dave,
so, having a freeview hd tuner in the tv does not give me HD ? I still have too pay sky to get it ?
But if I didn't use Sky, ie watched tv through the aerial, on freeview, would I get HD then ? (as the tv has a freeview hd tuner)
sorry if I'm being a bit dim here0 -
Yup, provided your aerial is set up correctly then you will get HD pictures on all the Freeview channels offering the service - see the following link

Note that you can't get 5HD via Freeview.0 -
thanks
never heard of 5HD. Is that 5 x better than HD ?0 -
If your TV has a freeview HD tuner you will get HD on the Freeview HD channels via your Freeview TV.0

However, if the source is not 4K it won't look like the 4K demos in the shop. Standard def TV will look like SD blown up to 40" 4K whatever the source. HD from any source will look like HD blown up to 4K. It will probably look like HD on a regular full HD set of the same size.0 -
"if the source is not 4K it won't look like the 4K demos in the shop"
so they have a 4k source playing in a room at the back of the shop.? My picture will never, look like that !?0 -

Yes thats right. It will look better, but not what you see in the shops.
But, unlike 3D which is dying a slow death, 4K is here to stay and content sources will improve over time.0
