Can we have the forum version set by a persistent cookie or something? So we can have a different version working on desktop and tablet, without have to change options in the userCP whenever you switch device.

MSE have this bizzarre idea that we all want to hog around public areas with our noses glued to a mobile phone, for that oh so must see advice on the site. no longer can we wait to get on to our systems at home. MSE is far too mobilised for that now.
Some of the regulars have this bizarre idea that they are in the majority and that nothing about the forum should change if they don't like it ;)
  • It was really ugly and hard to look at and navigate when I just came here...... Then when I logged in it seemed to go back to 'normal.'

So? I would wager that the vast majority of people here do not want it to change and are fine with the forum as it is.

Why does it need to be changed? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

  • OMG I'm sorry but the new site is AWFUL - there's far too much white & it's far too bright :(

(by odd coincidence the other main forum I use is also changing today - it's not up yet but I hope it's nothing like this one is!)

Very, very hard on the eyes :(

Please tell me we're going to be able to keep the old version if we want to?

May I ask who you ask to review / test such changes ..... is there an input panel of users on here?

If you joined the Forum before the new version launched you have the option to stay on the old green version or switch over to the new blue version. We'd love you to use the new version but if you want to stick with the old version that's fine. We don't plan to switch it off and we will continue to support it.

On the contrary, I would happily wager that the vast majority of people don't care about it changing!

Martin has previously detailed why it needs to be changed. The old site already looks like it was designed in the 90's. Most people forget MSE is a money making business now, not a pander-to-those-who-don't-like-change charity.

If you really don't like it then vote with your virtual feet. I'd also wager that the forum will be running fine in years to come even if a few hundred regulars leave.

OK, let's have a poll shall we? :D

And I think people are perfectly entitled to say they don't like it.

Whether people like it or not! :p

  • The poll is on discussion time lovinituk! :D

I will be interested to see who is right. :p

Hate the new format. Yes, I'm a dinosaur, only ever access this site on a PC, not a phone / tablet / whatever. I appreciate that in this day and age, sites need to optimised for mobile devices. But please please please - let us dinosaurs keep the option of the old layout, which is far easier. It's fine when I log on, which is something I suppose.

With this site, more than most others, it's the content of the posts that's important to people, not how jazzy it looks. Please don't change things just for the sake of it.

And don't get me started on the BBC - what the hell have they done to their website ???? It used to be a simple, easy-to-navigate site that did what I wanted ( on a PC ), it changed with no warning, now it's truly horrible. Another example of "Optimised for mobile devices, bu g g er you folk that still use that old-fashioned thing called a PC" . At least give us the option of the old layout, please !
