Yes you're right. I just had exactly the same problem trying to get to your post from the 'Today's new posts' link. It works when going from 'unread posts' from within your profile.
Which is not really what I want to do.
This was brought up a year ago when the new look was being trialled. They then added a button like the current one to take you to the first unread post - this seems to be missing again now.
I don't like the new version as it's much too white but having been forced onto it despite MSE Andrea's post saying logged in users wouldn't be, I can't get back completely to what it was before. I'm back on the original old colour scheme but everything is squashed into the middle of the page with wasted grey space down each side.
I don't know if it's just my login or using IE as the browser. I've read at least a couple of others complaining of the same thing.0 -

So just because it works with your favourite browser (for you with your particular setup), it does not matter that it doesn't work with other major browsers? :think:0

IE is and has always been bugged. I don't know why people choose to use it when far better alternatives are available for free. Chrome is faster and less troublesome. Even Safari is a better alternative to IE.0 -
The old version still looks ok in Google Chrome. IE is a pain in the backside, I don't know why anyone still uses it to be honest. Chrome is far better and rarely has problems and it's free.
No doesn't help - tried Firefox and Chrome. So it must be my login itself.
Basically I have about half of my page width wasted with grey space on either side of the forum.
EDIT : Sorted now - found another section in User CP in Options.0 -

That's odd. Switching back to the old version on desktop, mobile and tablet all looks normal to me. Have you tried clearing cache, Internet history, etc?
Just edited above post to say I had found another section in the User CP for different looks. That's fixed it - don't know why it had changed though.0 -
Seriously MSe since when did you think that this all white affair was going to be acceptable to those who use a PC to access this forum?
Where is the definition between threads? Why do you have to go hunting for the buttons that you use more often?
Given that Martin admits that its to be able to have a higher rating on google I need to ask why you need a higher rating? You admit you have 8 million addresses in your email address book you have full tv and print media coverage so how on earth do you need higher SEO coverage too? Just because its going mobile? RubbishDont rock the boat

In previous years, when there was another 'new format' that had a narrow display like this one, there was an option to select a wide display that would make full use of the screen. Where is that with this 'new format'?0

I don't want to get into the 'I like it/I don't like it' thing, but one thing missing is the 'forum join date' for posters. This is really critical in spotting spammers.
The way it goes is usually like this. Someone posts a new thread saying 'hey, I found a great deal'. Then a swarm of other people post saying 'I bought this deal it was really good'. What you may not realise is they're all sockpuppets from the deal company. This is particularly prevalent over on the investment board where scams keep popping up.
MSE puts up a newbie poster label (I haven't checked to see if that still works on the new layout) but that's based on post count not time. So a sock-master just registers a few accounts and makes generic comments on various other threads to bump up their post count until they're no longer newbie.
However it's much harder to forge the joining dates. So having them visible makes it clear whether it's a swarm of sockpuppets bumping up their own threads, or whether it's genuine posters. If the account was registered in 2011 it's much less likely that it's up to something, while if lots of posters were registered this month this behaviour points to something fishy.0
