I like to look at the forum using various screen sizes (PC, laptop, tablet and phone) and don't mind scrolling from side to side but hate that the sizes change - meaning if you have a small window you get a word or two of a message on a line, and the rest of the screen real estate used up by side banners. I know some forums have a user option to fix the width, can we at least have that please?I've gone back to the old green forum, and it seems to have gotten narrower. I now have 2 massive white borders on either side. I can't put it back to 'normal' IYSWIM.
Does anybody know how I can return it back to it's original state please.
Don't know if it is quite what you are looking for (and don't know whether it will work for you or not - that seems to be a bit of 'pot luck' lately).
And you might have tried it already without success.
But, if you think it's worth a try ...
Go into User CP
then Edit Options (under Settings & Options on left hand side)
then Forum Skin (under Miscellaneous Options - on main part of screen; you need to scroll right down to the bottom)
and then try out the various options there.

I know this is a minor thing but I really dislike the collage of photos on the new style site on the Marriage, Relationship, Families board when on a desktop. I think it really odd having stock pics of a family eating water melon etc.
I don't like the equivalent pictures on most of the other boards either (like that bright pink pig) but the marriage one seems the most weird.
And I think these picture slightly disguise the +New Thread option at the top right of each board next to the board name.
I'd be interested to know if the site has seen a reduction or increase in new joiners to the forum and new threads being created by those new members since the switch over. Some of the boards I frequent have definitely felt quieter.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Yes,
That is the way the older version has always displayed on tablet for me.

Yes,
I'm seeing this. I'm not using a tablet, I always use a desktop and now it's all narrow down the middle. yuk!! I have to point out, Ripply's version doesn't show it, but I have a border on the left as well as on the right. Where as before it was stretched across the screen IYSWIM.
Just tried Mandelbrot's suggestion (thank you btw) and the forum page is back to normal, but clicking this thread has caused the page to balloon to twice the size. If I use any of the other options, it makes no difference.
Not happy atm.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Aren't there two bits of white down the RHS?
The first is the blank continuation of the sidebar that contains the MSE News/Blog stuff. That is normal (though irritating - why a sidebar at all?).
The second is just wasted space because the thing hasn't sized itself properly. I am assuming that is what is at issue here.0 -

That will be due to one of the 'screen pics', presumably.
(I get certain effects when I quote/post.)
The system no longer seems to handle them quite as well as it used to.
A bit annoying, but most of the time threads with pics seem OK.0 -

Not on the tablet I'm using. Not on the default zoom anyway.
White sidebar has always come to edge of screen. No spare space showing if you are scrolled up to it. The width of the sidebar show if you are not.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

The default view was changed to that narrow version quite a while back. Going to the new forum and back must have reset it for you.
Setting in the UserCP can take you back to a full width one. or a stylish userscript is on the userstyles site that make the change as well.
with a stretchy option.
