Very handy the Bath Road free bus zone
Great price for that area- I thought I was doing well in August getting the Heathrow Hotel (the old Aurora Hotel) for £50.
I like the travelodge at Feltham for Heathrow departures -dinner at 'spoons opposite the night before and the very frequent bus from outside the station stops at all the terminals so no treking from the central bus station and it's on Oyster so only £1.50 -so much cheaper than the dreaded Hopper
Indeed. I'm far too old to be sleeping in airports. There are so many hotel options near to Heathrow that there's always last minute bargains to be had.
The free bus service is one of Heathrow's best kept secrets. The hotels usually don't tell you that there's a free bus outside but will push the Hopper tickets as they must get a cut of the sales. More info here: https://www.londontoolkit.com/lhr/heathrow_local_buses.htm0 -
For future trips if you want to do the train the Feltham route would work for you as Fareham trains go into Waterloo and Feltham leaves from there too.
Not for us. If it was one train A to B then I'd give it a whirl, but not going into Waterloo, and messing around with another train to Feltham. There's other rail options, but not convenient ones.
Too expensive as well. National Express costs £30.40 each return.0 -
I love the fact that whilst everyone continues to poop themselves about visiting Turkey/Egypt for you it's been business as usual!:rotfl:
I'm off to see whats in Gulluk via Tripadvisor! Thanks for sharing, loving your pix and I'm jealous!
I've taken your sentiments onboard and just booked a week in Egypt in October. Off to El Gouna, rented a villa and party of eight going. Thanks for the motivation MasterP.0 -
I'm going to Oxford next week. Hotels are horrendously expensive but what the heck. Looking forward to it. (I live in Ireland now and have the Sterling diff too, boo hoo!).
Three weeks after, going to Bilbao to primarily visit the Guggenheim. I'm sure there are lots of other lovely things to see aswell. Then off to San Sebastian to gorge myself on their world famous Pinxtos, Tapas and late nightlife. Then up to Bayonne, Biarritz and Anglet.
Fly home from Biarritz. Cannot wait, seems like a lovely part of the world, the Basque country.
Then a week later up to the Wild Atlantic Way part two. Sligo, Mayo, Donegal.
Life's tough when you retire isn't it?0 -

Hi All. Looking for some inspiration for a week in early July. I've been holding off booking something as my work situation was looking a little uncertain but now it looks like I may have left it a bit late. I usually go to Spain or Portugal but everywhere is looking much more expensive this year - presumably as so many are avoiding north Africa and other trouble spots.
I'm not looking for total peace and quiet but also want to avoid anywhere full of Club 18-30 types. Don't want a hotel in the middle of nowhere as I'm not one for sunbathing and like to have somewhere to explore. the hotel is just somewhere to sleep. I like smaller resorts near cities
so that you get the best of both a beach holiday and city break.
I'd be willing to consider Turkey but it's such a big place and I know nothing about the different areas.0 -
Dosh...
This might help...

Worried Jim will no doubt be supportive too.
Malta's only a short flight. Small island, good public transport, everyone speaks english, lots of history.
We've loved our first few days in Nicaragua.:beer:0 -

Malta looks very tempting. A friend's wife was born there had has been telling me for years that I should visit.
Nicaragua is probably too far for a week but I'll add it to my long term to do list.0 -

Have a look at Shamrock Apartments in Bugibba...
http://www.shamrockmalta.com/
The X3 bus from Luqa Airport goes to Bugibba bus station, and the apartments [owned and run by a v.friendly Maltese family] are a couple of minutes walk.
Regular public buses run to or connect with all parts of the Island. Ferry [return] to Gozo is only €4.65.
Ideal for a few days.:)0
