Back from Nepal today, the roads really were something else!!! There were quite a few accidents, but being on those roads was the highlight of my trip. Not sure if that's sick or not :(

Hi Duke. Those roads definitely focus your mind. Glad you got back in one piece.

We're still in Nicaragua, Granada to be precise. Late afternoon, touching 100 fahreheit and we're melting. Almost ice-cold beer o'clock time.

Back from Chicago and Michigan. I think Chicago is a fantastic city , better than New York. Got hit by a major reroute due to issues in Scandanavia and my Gothenburg Stockholm Chicago turned into Gothenburg Copenhagen Heathrow Chicago with an overnight on the floor at Copenhagen airport as all hotels were full but despite arriving 18 hours late had a fantastic trip. The boat hotel in Gothenburg was great and the Airbnb hosts in Chicago were lovely. Now to decide where next

My foot was never off the brake Pete, the only way I relaxed was by filming it all.

You enjoying Nicaragua then? We hit 107 in Lumbini. Missing the Everest beer already.

I'm looking at Vienna at the moment, has anyone whose been got any recommendations?

The Belvedere Museum is pretty good. https://www.belvedere.at/palaces

Hiking in the hills is another option if that's your thing.

You could go to the Hotel Sacher for a slice of Sachertorte. About as touristy as you can get.

You can take the train or boat to Bratislava which has a lovely centre but isn't the biggest place. I think that they're the two closest capital cities in the world.

Depending on how long you intend to be there you could have a day trip to Salzburg by train.

It's been a few years since I went but these are my main memories of the place.

Don't go to Nicaragua. I'm glad we took the plunge, but it was way too hot, and the humidity as well as melting us was totally energy sapping.

How about campervanning round both islands of New Zealand, topping with a couple of nights in Sydney and tailing with Melbourne on the way home? You'll need 4 weeks but preferably longer.

One of our more interesting ventures off the beaten track a few years ago was a d-i-y trip to Bulgaria. See #6 on the following thread...

One of the road trips was a bit like the one you've just enjoyed along the Prithvi Highway in Nepal. A lorry had just gone over the side of a forested hillside, and our bus driver was rubber-necking as he drove along.

I want to do NZ Pete but Mr Duke's not keen on the flights :(

Although I quite fancied Bulgaria a few years back, but it's become rather popular with the beer swilling Brits innit? Sorry, I don't mind the odd Brit but do not want to be surrounded by them, moaning & all that.

Etihad flight was empty, we had 2 seats each, almost everyone did & there were lots of people who had a 4 to lie on, even all exit row were empty! I got exit row on the flight from Abu Dhabi to Kathmandu, they started messing with my bag & shoving it around so I had to intervene.

I think I enjoy the search as much as the hol.

I can't recall seeing a single Brit, or hardly any other westerners on the whole trip. Went nowhere near anywhere like Sunny Beach or the like.

All the signage used, in shops, transport, everywhere and on everything is written in the Cyrillic Alphabet...

...which helps to make the country such a challenging prospect.

If you read all the links in the thread I linked to you'll get a good flavour of how different and beautiful Bulgaria is, what it has to offer off the beaten track, and well worth a good look at.
