SSE broadband feedback

I don't think they are throttling via the gateway.
I am getting full speed on 1 line and 17mbps on the 2nd. Both are connected through the same gateway.
So frustrating. Will be on the phone tomorrow also.0 -
But when does poor speed (ie. less than 10% of your subscribed speed) and service fall into the term of traffic shapping?
Indeed, I quite agree with you and it's less than 3% at times for some people. I was only making the point that MSE did clearly advertise that SSE used traffic shaping, which some people didn't seem to notice. Whether the extent of the said traffic shaping gets a bit ridiculous, it clearly does, is a different debate. I nearly signed up myself and I would likely be feeling very disgruntled now, along with many others, if I had gone ahead with it.0 -

Regarding your two lines - it sounds like they are at the same property?
If so there's still no guarantee they'd perform the same, regardless of provider - the quality of the lines from an FTTC cabinet in the street to a property can vary widely (or indeed wildly). There can be all sorts of dodgy joints, corroded wires and other such issues even on shorter stretches of line.
The posts from others does suggest to me there's some pretty blunt traffic shaping going on, though perhaps on a somewhat inconsistent basis.0 -

I'm well aware of problems with lines however when you have a new twisted pair installed and both lines sync above 80Mbps then you really don't expect to be downloading at less than 20Mbps on 1 line when the other is happily running at 76Mbps.
Traffic Management is there to ensure that over subscribed services don't grind to a halt but if 2Mbps is required then surely this falls into the realms of mis-selling as being on the 17Mbps would be sufficient, why sell upto 76Mbps if people are going to receive 3% of the advertised speed.
I asked at the point of sale about the unlimited downloads and asked if there was any throttling. I was informed that they don't throttle. When I call to report the slow speeds I am still informed that Daisy don't throttle their users.0 -
Exact same here. I was getting constant 65mb down with BT until I switched. Testmy.net results are showing 62 until 12:00pm then it drops like a stone to 2-3mb until just after midnight. Absolute rubbish. I've called SSE and I'm now waiting on a call back after they investigate - the call handler reckoned they don't throttle....0

Do you still get full speed on speedtest.net?0 -
Yes both speedt st.net and BT Wholesale speedtester indicating 62-63mb down all the time. Interestingly since I've called them at 3pm today my speed results from testmy.net have been swinging up and down so it would appear Daisy are playing0

Well SSE phoned me again and after a good chat they agreed to allow me to leave my contract without any penalty fee's.0

Hmmm i think I have a hypothesis, some people won't like it (those who have cancelled).
I wondered why test my says 2.4mbps when I can download at 600kb/sec (at 6mbps).
Here it is, Testmy download speed is also traffic shaped so not giving a true reflection of your actual broadband speed (bear with me).
Install this program
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemeter/?source=typ_redirect
Then open 10 youtube streams, a bbc iplayer stream and anything else you can get your hands on. Also set utorrent going
I showed that testmy said i had 2.4mbps a second but i can stream 10 youtube streams a bbc iplayer stream and utorrent at 600kb/sec with no losses or disconnect.
Effectively torrents are capped at 6mbit/sec but you can use near your allowance if you use a lot of streaming services. Thats the story, slow torrents and general downloads but you do have your speed.
When i did that I could spike up to 30-40 mbit/sec with all that streaming, the rub is that torrents and direct downloads are limited heavily. Testmy isnt a good indicator as it is limited (oddly)0
