Spambots

They are at it again right now, in credit cards forum. At this rate the forums days are numbered, especially as they now appear to be expanding on the times the spam gets posted. What was once mostly overnight is all day. A few more bots and even MSE towers will not be able to cope.

If this is an english language board, then yes should be possible. Do spam flags work? Surely anything marked as spam by several people goes to moderation.

So many options put forward but they do not seem to be bothered.

I gave up reporting the spammers, Following one around and 30+ posts all reported yet the system still allowed them to post more.

A simple solution to only allow one post and no further until its been verified or an instant block and a removal of all posts made if spam is reported with a new member or a low postage count.

Why 1st July in particular?

Just come on - and a quick glance at the main forum index and there's 8 of them at it. Talk about infestation level - its turning into a positive plague.

Several of us have been warning that if proper controls aren't put into place this would happen
- well....we told you so.

I'm starting to wonder myself if MSE would be quite happy to see the Forum die a death - as, at the moment, they are going the right way about it. Sort of Forum version of what a succession of Governments have been up to for years (ie "Death of a Thousand Cuts") - or, in this case, "Death by a Thousand Spammers". There's probably more of the little parasites out there planning on having a go yet..

EDIT: ....and another one has just "climbed on board" and started spamming..
