It's getting worse than ever. I know nothing about website design, but surely it can't be too difficult to (a) limit a new user to no more than, say, 3 posts per hour, and (b) when a spammer is identified, ban that email address from ever registering again ? I'm sure genuine new users would not be overly miffed by being limited to 3 posts per hour for the first day or so.

The admins here do a sterling job, but even they must be getting right royally brassed off at having to keep deleting all this rubbish.

I didn't start this thread to be about removing the spam, it had gone way beyond that by that time but thanks to fermi and other BG's it is kept down to a certain extent.

It is all about stopping the spammers before it gets to the flood stage and in spite of what Towers says, nothing perceivable has been put in place yet so I personally have now stopped all action against the bots.

I will still click on the singular spam that gets to the boards if I see them and report the more subtle ones in case others don't pick them up but it is now a case of -
'spambots, what spambots, I see no spambots'

This morning there is more spam than anything else. It is hard to even spot any threads that I want to read. Not good.

I reported a load of them at 7.30 this morning and have just come back on again to see one heck of a lot of the posts and the spammers are still there!

Why does it take MSE so long to remove these....it's bad enough that they are here en masse in the first place but when they still aren't removed 2 hours after reporting something is seriously, seriously wrong.

Like fermi, I'm getting thoroughly fed up with removing posts and reporting the spammers because if MSE aren't going to take this problem seriously, then why should we.

Yes, it's getting to the stage where I seriously may just ignore these bots and leave the mess to MSE.

Other normal spam etc, fine. I'm OK with reporting and/or dealing with that.

Yet further attacks going on now. One of the new lot started spamming at 3.32 pm today (ie their first spam went up 38 minutes ago - during office hours). So there has been someone somewhere sitting at MSE Towers for sure that has left that spam up now for that long - even though its office hours, so they will definitely be there.

Still on strike and refusing to report any more in those circumstances...

EDIT: Now 1625 and that spam is still there - 53 minutes later. Hello there....ship to shore....those spammers must be getting mightily encouraged about just how long they can manage to remain "up" before being shot down.

Small hint the spam is so easy to stop, so why are they not trying to stop it ;)
