Spambots

No, they won't be informed.
If if was an actual person they might notice their post count going down if they are getting zapped while they are online as they go, or see they are disappearing from the boards. No actual notification though until the point their account is banned/blocked and they try again.
If, as it seems likely with many, it is a bot, that is just a program/script generating new spam on it's own, so even the above may not be noticed in an active way.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

A newbie has posted over 40 threads in less than an hour.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/member.php?u=2395091
Why is this allowed to continue?
Why can't posts be limited to, say, 5 or 10 a day.
A spammer will still be annoying, but at least he/she wouldn't be able to run up and down the board putting :spam: on every forum....:huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Yes, there's more spam than people posting "I parked in the wrong place, now I want to wriggle out of the fine".
Altogether now "Its not a Fine"!0 -

* Moderate a new user's first 2 posts
* Limit them to 2 posts per day for first 5 days
* Let any single user tagging their posts during those 5 days as spam remove the post from sight and flag for review
or just let anyone post any amount of spam and declare the forums more popular than ever?0 -
I used to hit spam as soon as I saw it but it's getting worse and those in the towers seem so complaincent I rarely bother now. Perhaps if we all stop reporting it, the forums will eventually die a death and their cash cow dies with it. Perhaps then they will wake up and smell the roses0

Perhaps limiting new users' ability to start threads would be an option.0
