dizzy imp I agree with apple muncher. I will include that in the rules tomorrow. Preplanned kids activities and any medicine do not count as a spent as in previous challenges.

mothernerd, wow, what a busy bee you are.

Hoping DH goes away tomorrow night to go over to Nevis and then go snowboarding. That saves me cooking dinner etc and frees up the evening for decluttering etc. Also Wed morning will be easier. Only two kids to get ready and out of the house rather than three, lol

Listed more items on eBay today. Hope sth sells soon.

Today I'm grateful for a lovely day and DS loving his balance bike and cycling all the way to and from the bus to/ from nursery, saving me having to carry him. I am also grateful for Skype and DS nearly being able to communicate with his German grandparents (although he still answers in English he understands most of the German now).

Our joint account has worked. Both of our contributions have gone in. So fingers crossed everything comes out like it is supposed to as well.

    Hi All,

Lost a SFD to the dogs today. Had to go to the farm shop at the garden centre for their meat to cook down for them otherwise I would have 5 very unhappy dogs tomorrow.

Still working on budgets but will update these soon.

  • Hello fellow NST's and DFW's, I would love to say it was a NSD for me today, but it wasn't. I had to do a bit more food shopping with my husband after work because we have run out of things that can only be bought in certain stores near to our workplace and it makes sense to buy them now instead of making a separate 34-mile journey. What I loved most about today is, how totally involved with the money-saving, sticking-to-the budget, my hubby was. He even contributed to the meal planning and pulled me right back when he thought I was straying away from the plan. In all of our 17 years of marriage, we've never done all this - budgeting, writing every expenses, meal planning, etc. (that explains why we ended up with £41,000 debt). But hopefully that's all in the past. This is a new milestone.

We car shared today and had his petrol topped up on the way home, so it saved us from making an extra journey for it. Tomorrow will be another spend day as it is my car's turn to be topped up, we are car sharing again.

First day of Lunch to Work done for the month of March, not just for me but also for the 3 hungry hippos. Tomorrow's lunch is already prepared, that's day 2 of Lunch to Work. Yay!!!

More reconciliation of the money in the envelopes and the bank account.

I think this DFW thing is starting to rub on my children. They are more conscious about turning off lights when leaving the room, and not wasting food, or water, etc. Who am I to complain when the kids are behaving so nicely? If there is anything I will gain from this long and painful experience of debt repayment, it is the discipline and self control we have learned throughout the experience. I may not be able to leave my children a large amount of money when my time comes but as long as I have taught them how to manage their money wisely, I will have left the perfect legacy. (Why am I being so melodramatic, must be the the time of the month. Hahaha.)

The bed is calling me, time to hit the sack and get read ready for tomorrow's tasks. See you soon!

Happy to see the thread is so busy already for our March to the sea!

Things have started well here - cycled to work and took lunch, have meditated this evening and will pamper and do physio before bed, got 5-a-day in too.

I spent on a railcard which has come out of the travel budget, but I did forget to allow for it :o and £2 for a leaving present out of the social budget.

On Saturday I spent out of the March food budget - my friend who works for the NHS was up and we went to The Company Shop - if you work for emergency services check online if there's one near you. I can't believe I didn't join when I was eligible and now it's too late. Surplus food from supermarkets sold at low prices, often near the date, but not always. Half price joints of meat and quorn mince for 50p per bag were my main bargains. Big families and brand-buyers would really benefit.

Busy day tomorrow rushing from pillar to post on my bike and wont get home till after 10pm, but lunch and dinner are provided so minimal effort and cost!

Dizzy Imp - buying medicines doesn't lose you an NSD'umder other challenge 'rules'. Nor does kiddie activities, so long as you have planned them and set the money aside - some people use envelope systems. You may be able to reclaim your NSDs!

:T Whoohoo!! If Thriftylass will OK this then I'm claiming them back :D Money was allocated for the baby music session - I have a little pot on the windowsill for toddler groups and child activities. All my spare change goes in there and can only be used on my boys.

Wondering if I can do without the microwave for a while seeing as it blew up this evening...hmm...
  • Morning everyone! Shamefully late first check in, but I handed in a 3,000 word essay yesterday so to be honest you would not have got any sense out of me yesterday or on sunday. Sadly I have another due on monday, but on the bright side I doubt I'll have time to spend any money :)

So plan up to payday is to stick to a budget of £20 for everything - it's next friday and I have food, fuel etc so that should be fine. I'd also like to rack up 15 NSDs, excluding university parking as usual. The plan for the rest of the month will depend on how much my MOT costs me next week (crosses fingers, does dance to MOT gods) so I will update then. In the meantime I will be taking lunch to work, avoiding toiletries (this actually shouldn't be hard - normally I get bought them for christmas when my nan doesn't think I'm being girly enough :D ) and sticking to the other rules. Hoping for good things from march, February was a bit crap.

I love the idea of a turtle march by the way thrifty :D

    Morning all,

Quick check in as was feeling too grumpy to pay yesterday. Yesterday was SFD number 1 and today should be number 2. Did tutoring last night and have two hours of tutoring tonight so that helps my mood as it means the debt keeps creeping down :)

Tried to start on the Kon Marie method yesterday but only threw away one item so need to really get into the right mindset before I try it again.

Hope you all have lovely days
