The Only Girl I'm reading the whole blog from the start, I'm really enjoying it but I'm only at the start of 2013 so far!
Thanks to MMM I cancelled my cinema membership (my equivalent of having Sky TV) and recently bought a bike to commute to work. Now thinking about selling my car too. I'm also looking to invest some of my savings and try to retire early, so it's had a big impact on me, even though I was fairly frugal to begin with!NST September: SFD 17/20, food £62.87/£60, travel £61.55/£40, Outings £39.80/£100, Allotment £7.17/£30 Other: £42.32, Meditation ?/30.

Syn.. I was reading MrMM and some of the stuff he said really hit a nerve and other things I thought... nah that can't be right. Surely compounded interest doesn't make that much difference. So tonight, before reading about him on here and reminding me again, I was sat doing some savings calculations. And worked out that if I could continue the way I am going.. in 6 years and 4 months I would have £40,000 saved on my meagre income, simply by spending what I am now which is very frugal. Compounding..
works!

Hi Synonymous and liltdiddylilt, you both make me want to read Mr. MM now. I am nearly at the end of the debt busting and slowly learning to be really frugal in many ways, so I want to learn how to invest or have the guts to want to invest."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150

The Only Girl - it is a great read, but take it with a pinch of salt in places. My savings are actually dotted across 4 current accounts and a regular saver at the minute to get the most for my money in interest. I don't have enough to even warrant a stocks and shares ISA as the fees would not really be worth it for me. But I am aiming for that next
I think MrMM can be very hardline. Get rid of the car, buy a bike and don't buy a new... anything. No new computer, no new TV.. etc etc. Because everything new you buy, even with savings, is stopping you earning the interest on those savings in the time it takes to build it back up. Compounding. He didn't half make me feel guilty for splashing £940 on a new Mac after my old Acer died after 9 years loyal service :rotfl:

I like MMM and the Frugal Woods. Brilliant American blogs. My only sticking point is the level of income they both enjoy (ed) prior to retirement or trying to retire. Another poster on here pointed out that the Frugal Woods had something like 7k per month coming in as DINKs which even though I love what they preach so much makes what they are doing a LOT easier for them than someone living on min wage or even the national average wage in the UK of £20k per year. So yes totally admirable to live the way they all do. But a tiny bit like Prince Charles playing organic farmer??" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Had a lovely afternoon & evening in London with DH. Don't see much of each other nowadays it seems, with him working away and I seem to be getting taking on more and more each week. So great to spend some time together (amazing weather helped too!)
Fitbit says I walked 22,000 steps!! My highest so far.
Wasn't an NSD but we were very good and didn't overspend. Just walked and walked and walked...
Plan on staying home most (or all) of today so hopefully a NSD and plenty of de-clutteringLetting Go NST #17

car purchased after OH went and had a look at it. OH has decided to use the bank of MIL as he feels it not fair if i don't get any christmas or birthday presents for the next 6 years as this was the other offer. Even though we're having to do this it kind of made us realise that we have managed to save £700 towards it in our car fund. Insurance was only another £70. Worked out we can pay £100 a month to my mum for the car and it not have to much an impact on our budget> However road trip is no longer happening as we can't afford it, really disappointed. I think something is in the air as i too have an assignment due in this week and my motivation is nil.
Reading MR MM as well .
Small spend yesterday as DD1 went swimming with friends so i had some lunch whilst i waited. At least i didn't have to pay for her swimming and lunch as the rule is she has to pay for activities with friends herself from her pocket money. Not sure if i'm been tto strict as she is only 12.budgets = food gone:eek:/ petrol almost gone:eek:/nsd:mad:/ Treats: where the money gone? far far away:mad:/exercise not happening/declutter: only my purse:(
time for me :fat chance0 -
I love MMM!!! Read many of his posts, skipping the non-interesting ones, and like the basic premise behind it all. Now I pop back every so often and catch up or re-read.
I like the idea of simply not having to spend. And how the family downsized. I loom around all my gubbins here and sometimes wonder what I would take with me if I had to move house. Then I manage to distract myself!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0
