NSD number 4 and LTW number 5.

Colleague gave me an awesome book on slow cooking today, so currently have a chilli bubbling away to look forward to in an hour or so :j

Glad you're still with us, Bob- we're all nice here :)

apple- so did you put the coleslaw in the soup? And was it homemade coleslaw or the mayonnaise-y shop bought stuff? I can imagine some nice shredded cabbage & carrots in a soup is yummy. However, can't imagine mixing in the shop bought stuff... but hey I'm not judging :p

Guys thank you, I was being silly feeling like not coming on the whole forum just for some idiots. There are a few with very odd better than thou attitudes. I dont know what attracts them, other than its a good opportunity to belittle others that they probably dont get in real life. Anyway. Lets move on :)
Apple - How rude to tell someone what they eat is weird. Espeically on this board where we all celebrate using up and wearing out surely?
WelshKitty - free half term ideas may be easier if this nice spring like weather keeps up.
Traveller - There are so many free things to do in London, if you'd like any tips please shout, have lived here for 17 years now :)

I'm embarrassed to say i'll have to take you up on your offer of ideas and ive been a Londoner from the day I was born , 41 years ago :o We live in Islington. So go on guys, in the spirit of some other forums tell me about myself! Lets see, I'm neglecting myself, my children and that global warming and the national debt are now all my fault :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I was going to ask the same. Also, what flavour soup?

Lovely spend free day. Went for a spin in DHs new car into Snowdonia. There was still snow on the mountains and it is just stunning. We stopped by a lake for a cuppa (took flask with us) and DH was in his element putting the roof up and down in his car.

I'm in agony with my back again this evening. Not sure what has happened as I was fine when I got out of bed and it has just gradually started and got worse and worse throughout the day. It's got to the point where I can't stand up straight and am hunched over. I could cry, it is just so painful.

Trying to stay positive though. I am thankful for:
    An unexpected day off.
The mountains and valleys of North Wales.
    Painkillers.

Samiszel and welsh kitty- it was a while ago, but hm coleslaw (carrot, cabbage, onion) and prob no mayo. Therefore it'd have had the soup dolloped on top as twas probably a thick hm one. All in all in garnered me about 8 veggies in 1 sitting.

Hmmm. Probably not sounding v appetising! I lack Greying Pilgrim's way with words to descibe food! But I assure you it wss yummy!

But I REALLY want to know how to get my icon ! :rotfl:

Well I went to the churchyard and counted the crocuses (should that be crocii) but if you want to go gallivanting all across the country. Only joking, Harry Potter and National Trust membership sound excellent presents and glad you are all keen on banking experiences rather than buying tat you will have forgotten about in a couple of months, until you fall over it.

LoveaDove glad your OH got the all clear'

    Thriftylass take care of yourself.

Bobarella I too have had the nasty reply, condescending in one case and jumping all over a modest plan I mentioned and ignoring the point I was making. I just don't follow those particular threads anymore. Could have responded in kind to the first (I did a couple of assignments in his area and it would seem I have a better grasp of the transport links available) but as DS3 says "Don't argue with idiots. It drags you down to their level and they will beat you on experience."

traveller I was starting to respond but then picked up that you had said people in London. I have been to London primarily for CND marches, secondarily for other marches against various cuts and then the odd conference or two (oh and twice en route to Dover). We did have one coach driver who started his 'tourist spiel' and I have breastfed in Trafalgar Square - we got there, the pensioners went off in search of a cup of tea, the young people in search of a pub, OH went round the front to take photos of the speakers. leaving me and DS1 minding the banner. He was six months old and wanted feeding. Have been in the old GLC building a couple of times - enough to recognise it when it was used in 'Spooks'.

WelshKitty well done on the bank swap savings and ouch to the bad back. Please look after yourself.

Calling14 I am pleased to welcome you to the den making sorority.

sazzlebegood poor poorly DD2 and hope the essay goes okay.

Apple muncher It just sounds like a bit of crunch added to your soup. I often add things like peppers at the end of cooking time or add extra veg when re-heating something. Nothing wrong with a bit of crunch.

Well I have defeated the washing up mountain, down to the last roasting tin - all dried and put away - trouble is now I can see the worktops and the top of the cooker (think it might be time to clean the cooker top, the oven is still off limits yet but might manage the top - all the moving back and forth with pan supports and rings will take a lot out of me, will think about it).

Also done lots of shopping Well two bab rucksack loads and a small bag but it takes so long. Little Arseda provided two loaves of my favourite bread YS'd to 66p and 7 wholemeal wraps for 97p, 2 jars of carribean curry sauce (not something I usually use but at 10p a time we will have a go), a large pack of the expensive sausage (will cook them all in the oven to release most of the fat and then divide and put in the freezer) and needed olive oil to make carrot cake, only had 2 fluid oz. Wrote down the litre price (was going to go round town doing a price comparison) but then found a bottle on the reduced rack - it's mostly rapeseed with a little olive oil, bbd November 15. £1.50 per litre so got two bottles. Was pretty sure rapeseed oil was on the good fat list (checked when I got in, it is). So just got to hope it tastes okay in the carrot cake - if not I've got my oil for the year sorted.

Had to rest, then went back to look at crocuses. Also pansies, primroses, heather and cyclamen on the square.

Just been to Tessimo's, needed onions and sweet potatoes. Little Arseda mag has a ginger cake recipe using sweet potatoes. Love ginger cake but my old recipe had loads of treacle and golden syrup so this one is much healthier - needless to say I will not be using three different types of ginger in it (would add an extra £5 to the cost). It may get the syrup that came off the mandarin oranges if it's lucky. YS from there included cheese for 31p, two and a half inch slab of chorizo for 45p, 3 scotch eggs for 45p (15p each), pack of oatcakes (like mini wraps) for 20p and baby leaves, watercress/rocket/spinach mix and huge bag of baby leaf spinach for 10/15p each. People were still waiting for the girl to bring more deli stuff back but I looked at my trolley and decide to come home. I have bought cooking bacon, value plain yoghurt and washing up liquid because I really do not want to go shopping any more.

I am over budget but should have lots to make meals from - have just had one scotch egg with hm rice salad on a bed of lettuce, was scrummy.

Today I am grateful for crocuses, for warm weather - went out without panda hat and gloves and for bargains and new ways to cook.

    Evening all

Spendy day today so combined purchases - petrol, nail clipping for oldest dog, top up bits and lots of chocolate! When I fall off the wagon, I don't do it by halves :( Diet and finances both took a hit today. Though I did do 4km running on the treadmill and 2 miles walking the dogs.

    Hi guys,

Apple email MSE Badger and he will add your badge on. You may need to send him a link to the thread and tell him what you were in :D

    And your lunch sounds gorgeous!!!

Bob I, and Kat our fearless leader and some of the others here, were once told off by a bunch of busybodies on another challenge for stealing their idea/using their thread to record and check in our NSD's. And thus SFD's were born and I have never been back.

I also once went into the families section and was really not impressed with a cliquey bunch who didn't even try and help me in the slightest. So that is why I have a diary here in DFW despite being debt free. I like it here ;)

Sorry for not being around guys. I had a bit of a blah weekend and slept over 24 hours of it away. Feeling better now after a nice party on my thread ;)

Have got 1 spend day :o (today) to report, and 2 SFD's from the weekend. I am now aiming for 5 in a row again. I got a lot of weird little bits (mop bucket, mop & flash, chocolates for friend etc) out of the way today so am all prepared for the next few days although I forgot eggs. Shall have to live without!

My totals are going to be in my sig once I own up to it.

    SFD's: 5/15
    Groceries: £72.36/£150

    Night guys xx

  • Checking in with a NSD yesterday - bob, this thread and the DFW board generally are lovely, frankly the rest of the board I avoid like the plague, unless I want a good laugh. It's such a shame!

    Pre payday balance £1.50/ £13.22
    Groceries 13th Feb - 15th March £0/£100
    Fuel 13th feb - 15th March £0/£60
    Lunch to work 6/20
    Lunchtime exercise 7/20
    SFDs 3/15
Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

  • Checking in with a SFD yesterday (Lilt I had forgotten that encounter! I have swapped my sig from NSD to SFD appropriately!) yesterday, although it wasn't truly moneysaving - dropped a few balls with work admin and forgot to book a car for my 80 mile journey...so I have little fuel left. In theory can claim back, but its complicated and a delay :( DUH! I am trying so hard to plan ahead too!

Off on a leadership course tonight and tomorrow in a nice hotel...looking forward to being cooked for (and the development opportunity) and being warm but need to get myself in the right frame of mind to get the most from the course. Had paying guests staying last night - last min booking, so I had a mad rush around to get ready, when they go I am planning to pack, have a good breakfast, head into the office to meet my coach to 5k run group, and only go into the office for some essential admin stuff to avoid another unnecessary car journey of my own on Friday!

Was about to say only 5 days until payday when realise because it falls on a weekend, it is actually only 3 days to payday. Phew! Need to get that cc card bill gone, its been giving me the heebies. I know its nowhere near as large as it used to be but carrying anything over on there feels really uncomfortable these days!

Mothernerd - we are planning a couple of walks with friends (only way to get teenagers out and about is with a gang of others) in national parks near us, a cycle ride with a different gang, and dinner at a friends house. DD has a busy half of half term with her dad - theatre and a visit to a sports event which she got given tickets for for xmas, so I don't feel the need to splurge :) We are doing more over the easter hols - I just arranged a house swap, so we are going away for 5 days.

Accommodation is cost neutral, but I need some guests in in advance to cover flight and spending money. We like just to potter so I'm not expecting to spend huge amounts. Would prefer to be doing AFTER not before the DFD in April, but its a few weeks earlier than payday...that was just how the split of holidays fell this year for us. At least as it is ahead of DFD I will still be in the save not spend mentality, I hope!
