Awwwwww. You can do it when you want to!It's my husband's birthday in a couple of weeks and he's been saying for a while that he'd really like a griddle pan for when we cook steaks and burgers, so I bought him one in the January sales for his birthday present. We're on a very limited budget, and even the griddle pan itself was bought over budget, but his Mum made a comment which has made me feel the need to buy something else to go with it ("Oh, just what he's always wanted...")
So ideally, I'd like something nice to go with the griddle pan - he likes chilli a lot so I thought I'd make some chilli oil, but we have that in the house anyway. Is there anything foody related/something nice I could get to go with it which will be a nice surprise for him? We are having steak for tea for his birthday so we've already got that. Any ideas would be goodThanks

So now you're quoting me from January 2014? Get with the times, we own a house now, didn't then and have more expenditure now.0

Again, check the dates on that post.
We now have a mortgage, are shelling out £2410 on electrical rewire, £3670 on a damp proof course, £1000 on a new valley for the roof, £2000ish on whole house plaster and then obviously because we have a house we pay council tax, electricity, gas, water, etc. All those bills plus the normal stuff like food shopping, transport, etc.
But you've been saving for years for the pleasure of paying all of that!
Shock to the system it might be, but it isn't an excuse.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I cant remember the last time I had 900 pounds a month disposable income to spare. But I do know this, if I had some spare money and I knew someone close to me had a big birthday coming up, Id buy them a present before I had to start shelling out on other essential expenses.
No matter how tight money has been for me, I wouldn't give someone a second hand chocolate orange for their birthday, I plan for birthdays and christmas and presents get bought when there's money spare. Its not like you didn't know his 30th was coming up.0 -

I don't have £900 disposable income. The quotes are from a while ago, BEFORE WE BOUGHT A FRICKING HOUSE. Jesus.0 -

You did. This is my point. When you did you could have planned for your brother in law's birthday. Put a fiver aside or something.
Wouldnt really have been beyond the realms of most sensible people's imagination to be prepared.0 -

Oh. you poor dab. You had to spend all your money? You have to pay bills?
Darling, some of us left home at 17 and have paid the bills ever since. We have never, ever used that as an excuse to treat a family member so appallingly!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
