Has the Queen not given you an MBE for that yet?
It's not safe for us to live in the house at the moment. We have a three year old. There's woodworm in the floorboards of kid's bedroom. There's brick dust everywhere from where we've smashed out fireplaces, etc. We are planning to move in next month when things should be temporarily smoothed out, but for now it's just that little bit too dangerous for him.0 -

Darling, some of us left home at 17 and have paid the bills ever since. We have never, ever used that as an excuse to treat a family member so appallingly!
That's your decision. Not sure why you feel you've got the right to judge my life.0 -

Ah, so you are still mooching. Lovely.
Make sure the house is really nice and pretty though, won't you? Then you can show your BIL which tin of paint you bought instead of buying him a present.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Maybe for his 40th, he could get 2 chocolate oranges. Maybe more accounting for inflation.0 -
Is it possible that BIL didn't go whinging to his Mum about the chocolate orange as such, but told her his feelings on the subject of his gift and MIL is trying to nicely tell you it was an ill-thought out gift whilst acknowledging that you haven't got a great deal of spare cash due to buying your house.
What has been said to your OH about it, either by yourself or by his Mum?0
