You ought to see what my husband was going to buy his brother in law for Christmas! He just picked up any old thing and chucked it in the trolley. "You cant give him that" I told him "Its cheap and tacky".
Yes its my husbands family but I am better at choosing presents than he is and sometimes he does let me guide him. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
He buys you a packet of maltesers and he's complaining about a chocolate orange?

In all honesty, we weren't going to get him anything. We had a card - but hubby decided that he would re-gift the chocolate orange my mum had bought him for Christmas. BIL complained that the date was very short too.
He usually gets hubby a book or something similar and gets me maltesers (which I'm well chuffed about because I love maltesers). But I don't expect to get anything. I understand that people can't afford much - he only works 4 hours per day so he doesn't have much money himself.
You re-gifted a chocolate orange? Seriously?0 -
You gave him a second hand chocolate orange for his 30th birthday?? That is beyond tight.0

If I were to buy something for someone, I would have bought a choc orange and a bottle of wine, and maybe a set of smellies from Bodycare or Superdrug: maybe a tenner in total. The choc orange on it's own seems a little tight to be honest.
That said, your BIL sounds like a whiney spoilt brat. 30 years old and he is whining to mommy that his bro and SIL only got him a choc orange?! I would expect that from a 9 year old, not a grown man of 30!
Many people don't buy adults at all, so he should be grateful he got anything at all.
I am assuming your BIL still lives with mommy? A grown and mature man with his own home and a good job/career (and possibly married,) would not be whingeing about such ludicrous trivialities!Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

A chocolate orange? For a sibling's 30th birthday? Does your husband even like his brother?
Sorry, but that's a really stingy gift. It reeks of 'couldn't care less and grabbed any old thing quickly and cheaply, probably while buying stuff for myself and saw a discount.'
You didn't need to go mad and spend loads, but you could have found some way, any way however low cost, that actually showed you valued this person in your life.0 -
OP and her husband still live with her parents, how come it's only the BIL that's getting stick for living at home?0

Wow. We don't do presents unless it's for a significant birthday.
It's my hubby's 40th next year. I was looking to take him to the great barrier reef but I might just get a new wooden floor and give him the chocolate penguin lollipop DD was given by the ocado driver yesterday.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
