  • i was told to ask to be put through to the cancellation line to negiotiate offers. I phoned mid week, the guys was really helpful.Managed to get the 30 quid connection fee waived, though that might have been just cos we'd got the sky plus. I've just had the switch over to broadband to the free package this week. The transition was straightforward they even rang me to say when it all went live so I could plug the modem in and get started. The start up disc is quite easy to install.I've noticed the speed does vary on the line though, sometimes is lightening fast other time slow but not as slow as dial up or anything. Will see how it goes, anythings go to be better than paying 17.99 to BT for the same speed and usuage. The guy at Sky did warn me though that BT will try and stall giving you the mac code but you they have a legal obligation to give it to you even over the phone.

    Hello all,

I currently pay for Sky TV (about £34 per month) but my landline is with BT and my internet access is with Toucan. I keep hearing about Sky's deal where you can now get everything with them. Most of what I have heard appears to be positive.

Does anyone have any experience of switching onto Sky's broadband?? I only ask because in the past I have had bad experiences of switching internet providers and can't be bothered if it is going to be loads of hassle! However, I reckon I could save a few £££ each month so feel like I should do it.

    Any tips??

is it in your area if not it will be £17.00
  • I've gone through it all last week. The whole changeover was stress free without any loss of internet. The kept me touch with an estimated connection date and phoned me when I was online to plug the router in and get started I'm on the basicfree package, the speed varies from slowish to lightening fast. Not slower than I was used to with BT.
  • I tried for the free digital too last week as I'm on Orange Dial-Up which is ending soon. I was told there are no free lines in my area so it would cost me £17 a month too as they would have to rent a line.

I asked if they had a waitlist/could give me an idea of when a line may become free/contact me when it was available and was told they had no idea and I would have to keep phoning back every month (and being kept on hold on their 0870 number no doubt....) to see. Hmmmmm obviously not big on customer support and really not that bothered about getting people on the free digital, though I did say I'd be upgrading and paying a fiver a month for the up to 8meg service.

Anyway after some family recommendations I've just signed up with Plusnet £9.99 for up to 8meg. It's only a monthly contract so I thought as it's my first attempt at Broadband I'll do a short notice one then I can change - or wonder of wonders - even go to Sky if they get a free line. I'm awaiting connection - got about 5 emails through so far with the progress of my account and I only signed up last night. It'll take about a week to get me connected so fingers crossed!

I've SKY TV years now, tried to get the broadband in but twice I was rejected! My line rental and calls were with Toucan. Sky said that BT was the problem when trying to put my order on. Paid the installation charge £30 TWICE and had it refunded twice! Load of nonsense. Went with Tiscali and it was a smooth changeover! ;)
  • Funnily enough I got Sky + installed today and was chatting to the engineer about my not being able to get Broadband free as I was told there weren't any lines free and it would cost me £17 a month indefinitely and he raised his eyebrows and said that's odd it's very rare that they don't have free lines.....

Makes me wonder if this big marketing campaign about free broadband as part of the intial Sky package/upgrade to Sky + is somewhat deceptive - allegedly of course......

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

thanks for the advice guys. is there any way of finding out if Sky have any free lines in my area without phoning them up?? I really dislike phoning Sky so would much rather use a website.

Also, am I right in thinking I still need to pay for the BT landline even if I switch onto Sky Talk package??
