This challenge is about so much more than clothes isn't it!!
Yes it is I have already realised this with one shopping trip :rotfl:The willpower needed is quite high (understated the quite bit)
You need excuses already in your head as to why you do not want these things:rotfl:Like oh no I really don't need it as I have one in Green,Red,Blue,Pink sitting in my wardrobeWhich in my case is probably true but I just haven't found it yet !
Its like a diet if you cant have it you want it knowing you will either say why did I buy/eat that as I really didnt need too !
I really hope you get some wear out of the new top and lesson learnt for me as well so thanks for that.
My quote the other day has got me thinking and I have got my new Ralph La*ren boots out of the box after 3 years and thrown the box away :eek: Which was very hard to do and I may need to book an appointment with a councillor  I am going to wear them with pride when I go shopping to Li*l later :T I am NOT saving these things for best as the quote says that day never comes

I don't save anything for best. We use our best crockery, cutlery, glasses etc every day. If something gets broken, it can be replaced, but the enjoyment that comes from using these things every day (including dressing up in best clothes sometimes even if just at home) can't be measured.Spend less now, work less later.0

Sign me up for 2015 please FedupandSkint.
I will aim for £150 2015 as I feel sure I will need a couple of pairs of jeans this year. I also will want another Xmas jumper next winter. Which leaves me with £50 for other items.
Thank You sooooo much for all your hard work.

"If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage."
This is one of my favourites...
My Grandma we've aways joked she keeps everything for best, I say joked... but she really does... She tells people not to tell me when she's said she'll keep something for best! She got new glasses, we caught her wearing her old ones asked her where are your new glasses? "I put them up for best, I don't want to break them".... but she can't see without them!! New oven glove - up for best - so we have to keep burning our hands using the old one... Wardrobes and wardrobes of clothes up for best.
The sad part comes my grandma had a fall mid November, she's bed bound now. She will never wear those clothes and shoes she kept for best. She wont be cooking any more so those cake tins and oven gloves, being kept for best wont be used.
My grandad her husband always put up bottles of champagne for special occasions, we opened 2 at Christmas - both corked, looks like the whole lot is.
I decided if it's too nice to be used, it's too nice for me to have. Shoes kept in boxes will be worn or sold...
xI hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.
even when it feels like your not....0 -
That's a very poignant story Pixtotts - brought a tear to my eye. My Mum did very similar things to those you describe your Grandma doing. It was very frustrating sometimes. Although she was appalled that I could buy something, bring it home & wear it straight away :-)
About a year ago I made a decision to wear all my nice things whatever the occasion - it felt good :-). I've slipped back into "that will do" mode in recent months. Time to get back into my "glad rags" lol
Hope you enjoyed wearing your RL boots MavvyMoo :-)Shifting my energy for 20200 -
How sad pixtotts I guess that your gran is from a time where things weren't as disposable, people did have to make do and mend but people wanted to keep up appearances so 'best' was brought out for special occasions. My OH remembers being shoehorned into 'best' Sunday clothes for church, once home they were off and put away. If they got dirty with
play or ruined (boys, football...holes in elbows and knees) there simply wasn't an option of replacing them.
I'm guilty of wearing my scruffs a lot, but then thry are comfy.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Hello all
"If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.:)
Mav xMav That's my sig, that is, and has been since day 1 on MSE. It's also my philosophy, needless to say. How sad about your Gran pixtotts, and the wasted, corked champagne.
I used my Mum's virtually unused steam iron for years after she died.
Thank you for starting us off again fedupandskint.
Ok, my budget will be £200 for this year. I did pretty well last year, stayed on budget, but I may need some different clothing if I get a hip op this year.
Last year I was lucky enough to be sent a cycling jacket to review for Am@zon, hoping for more like that!
I also got socks for myself to review, socks for DGD and sports gear for DGS from manufacturers.
I bought quite a few bits and pieces from Aldi last year, I like their clothing Specialbuys. Primarni and the X Catalogue shop are my other haunts.
I tend to save my Am@zon gift vouchers for big buys - my Jack Murphy replacement for a Drizabone coat was bought with those. I hankered after a Drizabone for donkey's years, then when I got one it went largely unworn as it was too heavy. Lesson learned... try one on before you buy mail order, if possible...
I recommend the Jack Murphy if anyone's budget includes a really good quality waterproof long coat, suitable for dog walking, horse riding, bike riding....Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
