Good morning, and happy weekend :j:j

So for the EESP if I eat a kiwi fruit it reverts to being EE since kiwi are free but not speed, right? Shame because quite a few of the fruits that make a nice change in the winter months are no longer sf/speed (kiwi, mango, banana, pineapple). I usually eat quite a few of these because I get bored with apples and clementines.
Also, a roast dinner would be EESP if you just ate the meat and veg but not the potatoes or parsnip? It seems a bit odd that you can't syn free food, but there must be a reason for it. Might try a few EESP meals and see how I get on. I don't feel as if I have to have carbs at every meal so it might work out.

Last night I spent my sins in advance by drinking (too much) wine, so I need to pay back the debt this week - yes, I know its not the official SW way but the damage is done now!
So far today I have had 2 boiled eggs and i slice of WM bread forma 400g loaf. I'll have an apple later for snack and then a late lunch since I am off out to the cinema at 5pm.

    B: 2 eggs and toast
L: HM VLF chicken meatballs, tomato sauce and green veg (this is a recipe ftom the 5:2 book and is delicious).
    Supper: veg stir fry.
    Snack: Apple, clementine.
HEA is milk with coffee and tea, HEB is WM bread.

    Weigh in tomorrow for me
    Trying to keep in budget.

Maman I have been reading on here about the new program
Will it be any use to me or am I better doing green with the odd EE day.
I know you will put me right regarding which one to follow. I think I have grasped EE and the Green days, it might be confusing if I try something new.
Anyway, I will need it explaining if I try it won't I lol :D:p

Wiz, iI know maman has already answered you but I don't think the new EESP plan is recommended for anyone with diabetes anyway. I think I read it in the book somewhere...

I think I managed an EESP day yesterday - and it was probably low enough in calories to qualify for 5:2. Skipped breakfast and had ham salad for lunch - not really sure if there was enough ham to be 50%, I should have had a hard boiled egg. Dinner was salmon fillet with new potatoes (HEB), broccoli and peas. Had cheese (HEA) and an apple for supper and 2 small G&Ts (5 syns).

Looking at it now I don't think it was quite there, I missed out on an HEB but I'm pleased to have had a low calorie day. Really need to kickstart this year if I'm going to get anywhere near my target by 1st March.

Hi Lois, you can't have potatoes on an SP day even as a healthy extra. That was a red day rule I'm afraid. If you have any potatoes, pasta or rice it turns it to a normal EE day..

Right then I ate far too much potato and pasta yesterday and turned my day into a green day so I feel fuller than a full thing! I was still on plan and only used 7.5 syns :j

We have a pork hog roast in the freezer that I bought for Xmas and I need to use it up so we're having a hog roast tonight! OH wants a roast dinner but I really don't like them so I'll add the coleslaw and that to mine and he can have gravy and veg..

    Menu today - EE
    B - melon, quark
L - ham and egg muffins, salad, pickles
T - pork hog roast (6) wholemeal roll(heb), hm coleslaw, jacket potato wedges, salad
    S - milk (2) crisps possibly (4.5)
    Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.

Morning all, I haven't had time to read back yet but will do this afternoon.

In the meantime I wonder if anyone could help me out with some sw friendly recipe ideas for mushy peas?

I bought (being very MSE!) a shedload of tins of them when they were at their lowest price and I still have about 30 tins in the cupboard.

My consultant says I can eat them as much as I want, but my favourite way to have them is with fish cakes or fish fingers, which would have to be synned on sw.

I think they would be nice with some smoked salmon trimmings, so that's one way, but I'm struggling for other ideas. Any suggestions much appreciated!

Have a lovely Saturday everyone, I'm trying to keep myself on plan for the weekend as I weigh in on Monday - so far I've been firmly on plan and lost several pounds this week but could easily put that back on if I don't watch it over the next two days!

Thanks Maman ,I think I will stick to what I know and potatoes I really can't do without,, an odd day yes. But more than that ,no.
    Thanks again x

I wouldn't even push yourself to have a day unless you want to. Try having the odd meal (like soup with HEB) and go from there.

I think it sort of looks like a Red day (counting the peas and potatoes as your HEBs).

You're right about it reverting to an EE day if you have any free food but I'm confident that having some EESP meals would help even if you don't manage a full day. The message that's coming through to me from the changes is to be mindful that the best things to eat for weightloss are proteins and the listed fruit and veg and that carbs and sugary fruits should be in moderation.

I think there needs to be some clarification about synning free food. It's not logical that a Muller Light can't be synned but a yogurt with syns in it could or that I suppose if you had a roast potato cooked in goose fat or a parsnip in honey then they'd be OK to syn??? That's like encouraging us to make less healthy choices.

Your menu for today looks EESP to me. As you're making the meatballs yourself I'm sure they'd count. I think it's only processed things like sausages that don't. I'd count it as SP anyway.;)

    My EE plan for today:
B: NAS Ribena, HEA milk for teas, scrambled eggs
L: not sure but plenty of choices in. I may have a JP with cottage cheese, spring onions and beetroot.
D: pulled pork (Tesco), chips, tomatoes, mushrooms, peas, fried onions
Syns: weekend wine :j and may have real oven chips (syns online doesn't seem to be working properly so not sure yet).

I don't have recipes jpscloud but why not have them with baked fish or make your own fishcakes with mash and a can of tuna or salmon. I generally eat them with HM burgers. Being MSE you could up your protein with just one burger and then your bargain mushy peas.

    Thanks maman and Shala,

Never occurred to me to make my own fish cakes! :o Might try that later today.

I've also got plenty of 5% fat pork mince and some turkey breast mince in, so could make some nice burgers too.

  • jpscloud - How about dipping a piece of cod in egg then your HEB of wholemeal breadcrumbs and baking it in the overn, then serving with SW chips and the mushy peas?

Hahaha!! crabapple its true though. Even at a 'off the peg' 12, they still told me i was overweight lol!! They went by my bmi rather than actual measurements lol! I found it hilarious though because my bmi was always 30 from the age of 16 until i started SW in the first place (and i wasnt a fat 16yr old to look at lol, but i obviously didnt have a lot of muscle mass.

I couldnt give a fiddlers what i weigh or what my bmi is, as long as im happy myself... yes i know i should, and it would be nice to be in the 'nomal' range, but lifes too short. If i get to a 12 or below and i want cake, well cake i will have lol! Regardless of what any quack says lol!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

The BMI theory is flawed because it isnt accurate for all body types. There was a tv programme years ago that measured the BMI of the England rugby team and many of them were over 40! The problem is muscle mass, if you have a muscular frame you will be heavier because muscle weighs more than fat.

I've also seen a report that said people who have a BMI between 25 and 30 are healthier (i.e. more resistant to illness) than those below 25.

    Now I'm well confused!

According to my book you can have 200g new potatoes with their skin as a HEB on Red, so I thought I could use a HEB on SP?

I make my own fish cakes and use couscous instead of breadcrumbs. In fact that's what we're having tonight with Actifry chips and peas. DH wanted mushy peas but I haven't seen any here so it will have to be garden peas.

Mushy peas are also nice with jacket potato and mint sauce. That was a favourite meal of ours when we used to do red and green days.
