Afternoon
I've been reading up about gallstones on this website and it says they can be caused by being obese and by losing weight, so it's surprising more of us aren't suffering with you Lantanna - hope your doctor appointment goes well. The gallbladder operation is much simpler than it used to be, and often completed with keyhole surgery so the recovery time is much shorter.
I'm having an SP day today: I had an orange for breakfast, lunch was salmon and salad and dinner will be chicken with ratatouille. We usually have couscous with it but I haven't got any so SP it is!
Thinking about what treats to have with the HEBs, I often don't have any, so 2 is a luxury, I might have some prunes with yogurt, and ryvita with cheese (HEA). Yesterday I had cheese cut into cubes with cocktail onions on sticks - very 70s! - and really enjoyed it.
Meg - thank you for the list of sausages, that will be really useful when I get back to the UK. DH loves sausages and we haven't had any while in Spain as I don't know how many syns they would be. We love chorizo too.
Matron Midge - what's sweet lemon couscous? Sounds nice.
That's why SW works in my opinion - if you had to do without all the nice things you'd do it for a while and then get fed up, but as you can still have small amounts either as syns or HEs, it can become a way of life. Nothing is off limits, so even if you want to eat a whole 4 cheese pizza you can, using flexible syns, just not every day!

LL - can't have yoghurt on an SP day unless it's one that's synned - although IIRC you can't get syn free ones can you?
Thought it was worth a mention in case anyone else sees this and doesn't realise that.

Sweet lemon couscous.
3oz dry plain couscous
Juice and zest of a lemon,
Sweetener to taste
2 eggs
Put couscous in bowl and add sweetener, lemon juice and zest.
Cover with boiling water and leave to absorb - like you would for a savory dish.
Taste and add more sweetener if you wish.
Beat eggs and add to cooled couscous.
Put in small shallow baking dish and cook at 180 degrees for 20-30 mins depending on how thick it is.
Slice into bars/wedges.
Serve with yogurt, quark or syn free lemon curd.
This is enough for 2-3 breakfasts.
It has an odd texture but is very nice and I've just had another piece with a cuppa.
This is probably a tweak but if it's only now and again I can't see it as a problem.0 -
Hi all
Sorry happy belated birthday maman
had a night out last night as my parents were watching the boys DH and I went to see hotel marigold and then went for dinner. Had chicken fajita's, a soda and lime and a coffee so feeling good about that. However today I have been really tired as I had a bad night last night and have eaten Galaxy, some brie and oatcakes that one of the classes prepared for a parents do and had loads left over - afraid that is my weakness cheese and biccies. Although I will not be partaking of the alcoholic beverages this evening as I am taking DS ice skating so will be driving.
May try an SP day tomorrow and am thinking:
breakfast: mushroom and tomato omlette
lunch: vegetable soup, roll
Dinner: fakeaway kebabs with salad0 -

Might give this one a go sometime Matron - thank you

Plan for overnight oats (1st heb) and while planning the second it dawns on me that I cannot have the yoghurt in the oats - it plays with my mind too much and blows my brain :rotfl: I'm with maman and try and slip in a few SP meals rather than SP days. On normal EE days, I just make sure I don't overdo portion size of carbs, particularly potatoes and pasta. Good luck with your 5k. My morning walks have diminished as the week has gone on this week
I absolutely agree, it is very much a diet, and I am struggling with it but persevering. I was way way too lax on my syns last week and had a small gain so I'm being really strict this week to remind myself I can actually do this!
Hopefully a week (I'm gonna try and see out the week) will get me a loss and I can have a lovely week next week just sticking to normal planI do agree on the carbs generally and I am trying not to have so many, like not rice at lunch and pasta/pots with tea like I used to a lot.
I really want to do the 5k which is weird! I had a look at C25K today and the first week is 5 mins brisk walk then 60 secs running, 90 walking for 20 mins. I couldn't get out earlier cos of the rain so tried doing it in the spot in my living room and I'm not dead yet :rotfl: Did get a quick 1.5 mile walk in when it stopped chucking it down as well.Just a wee note for if you ever have too much stirfry in the fridge from buying it on Whoopsies, it makes fantastic soup!!
Boil it all up and then blend- really tasty and a bit different that normal veggie soup!

Duly noted, it might be a help, although hubby doesn't like blended soups so I tend to avoid making them. I just figured you can't freeze beansprouts and kale so just had to eat the stuff!:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Thanks for that Denise - too late now though, I've just eaten it, lol! :rotfl:
I was trying to explain SP to DH and he was very puzzled at being able to have Ryvita as a HEB but not potatoes. It's odd isn't it? The red plan was very similar, but you could have a small portion of carbs with a meal if they met the criteria.
Matron - thanks for the recipe. It does sound good, and as you say, now and again shouldn't do any harm, however it probably breaks the 'use of couscous as flour' rule. Having said that, when I did SW 12 years ago I regularly made pineapple and lemon upside down cake using couscous and managed to lose 7 stone. Those were the days when canned macaroni cheese and corned beef were free foods!

It is perverse - you get an extra HEB so can eat more bread/cereal!
Although as I do Green I'm not actually eating extra HEBs anyway:heartpuls Daughter born January 2012 :heartpuls Son born February 2014 :heartpuls

Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes for yesterday. I feel I've got a lovely group of virtual friends on here.:A
Hope you're OK today beanie, two nasty falls.:(SallyCinnamon wrote: »I can't remember what I thought of the cannelloni - I've found that some of the SW recipes where you just throw raw onion in the mixture and it's supposed to cook in its sauce in the oven don't quite do it for me. I love onion, but it needs cooking first - I try to remember to write a note onto the recipe for next time.
I always microwave my onions before adding them to dishes. So chop/slice/wedge them first and then zap for a couple of mins in a tbsp. of water. It works really well.
crabapple, I've found that you can freeze beansprouts. A bit like peppers they aren't crisp when you defrost them but perfectly OK in stir-fry. I rarely buy stir fry mix unless it's YS. I just cut bits off all the veg I have in the fridge/cupboards (mushrooms, spring/onions, carrots, broccoli, cauli, cabbage, peppers, frozen green beans.) I buy spring onions and mushrooms most weeks as they're so versatile.LL - can't have yoghurt on an SP day unless it's one that's synned - although IIRC you can't get syn free ones can you?

I know that's true but I've done the same with synning sausages on SP. You aren't really supposed to have sausages on SP but I reckon there's a fair bit of protein in them and I add to it with peas and broad beans. It does seem a bit mad that you can't have syn free yogurt but you can have synned ones. I suppose it depends on how strict you want to be on SP. Personally I'm just being 'mindful';). I always measure pasta and rice (always have) but I know I've been eating fewer potatoes. I can tell because I'm not buying them so often.:)
Ate out last night (yummy Indian) and again today at lunchtime. The lunch menu was quite reasonable (£20 for 3 courses) but wine was £13.95 a glass!! I was driving so stuck to slim line tonic.:D Out again tomorrow and potentially Sunday as well. THEN back on plan for a bit!! All this socialising just happens to have come at once. I will go to WI on Thursday and fingers crossed I'll be in range and can stay away until I'm back where I want to be.0
