Jocks if it was me I'd be inclined to have some sort of treat at the end of that. 23 miles is 23 miles !! But if you want to be really good, maybe just increase your syns for that day and double your healthy extras!

There was a question on the website asking about why the meat isn't British and it was kind of side stepped:naughty: .. you would have hoped that they'd have kept it in the country but I guess it doesn't work out cost effective enough!

According to our consultant it is because British cows are just too fat! and Argentinian beef is very lean. Not sure how true that is though!

Well I managed to STS tonight.. miracle of miracles. Technically I put on 3lbs last week so this week I've lost it again but in my SW book/record I've stayed the same as I didn't go to class last week :j:T well happy with that!

I need 1lb this week coming to get to 13.7 which is what I wanted to be by my birthday so i'm a little ahead of target as we're still 3 weeks away!

So I pledge to try and lose at least 1lb this week :D

Looks good not having a gain in the book and well done - it's good that you lost the 3lb you'd put on. That's a good loss by anyone's reckoning.

I got my copy of the Food Glorious Food book too, had a quick look and it's not a great book for someone who already likes to cook as it's basic recipes - never mind i'll still try some of them!

I had a quick look through it at group and didn't think it was worth bothering with - it's very basic. Think I've got enough years experience not to need instructions for simple stuff!

off to eat my treat doughnut  "see" you all tomorrow!

Anyone tried the SW "doughnuts"? Someone made them for our taster a couple of weeks ago. They weren't back but definitely not the real thing!

Jocks, what about having porridge or a SW cooked breakfast early that morning, Bananas and Alpen Lights would be good for the way round. How long will it take?

Jock - I think lantanna's right about having a good breakfast before hand. Bananas and Alpen Lights are easy to carry and eat.

Back shortly with my menu plan once I've had a look in the cupboards to decide what to have for lunch.

    Hi all

No WI for me today, DH is playing golf and brought me breakfast in bed before he left so I was full of porridge and tea whuen I got up! I'll do it tomorrow.

Jocko - I don't think you need to worry about eating some sweet treats on your walk, the energy you'll be using will balance it out. It's a good idea to have some carbs to keep up your energy levels as well, but the most important thing is to stay hydrated so take plenty of water.

Retiredlady - I was wondering about the ready meals and where they fit in to the plans too. The sweet potato curry would be good on green but you'd need to add speed veggies to make it EE. From memory, they all seem to include carbs with one possible exception - the chicken pizzaola (sp?).

caterina - I don't attend a group at the moment but have done in the past. It really comes down to personal choice and knowing whether you have the willpower to go it alone. Some people need the 'threat' of being weighed by another person to keep them on track. I make a point of reading and posting on this thread every day, it helps to focus the mind and it's great to share successes, everybody is so supportive.

On the bread debate, DH and I hardly ever eat bread since we started SW in November and have got used to not having it. The hardest thing is when we eat out as Spanish restaurants always provide bread with the starters and it's hard to resist. Usually it's sliced baguette, but the restaurant here on site have ciabatta rolls that are irresistible - we're going there on Sunday for a dinner and dance so will have that temptation to deal with then.

Have a good day everyone, back later.

Back again having had a look in the cupboards:

B - scrambled eggs on toast; banana
    L - 2 Ryvita (3 syns), Marmite; Mullerlight & grapes
D - 2 Butchers sausages (1 syn), mash & green beans, splash of gravy

HEA - milk in tea throughout the day
    HEB - toast

Syns: As above 4; couple glasses of wine 12

Will be over by a syn but easy enough to pull back after the weekend.

Won't be around over the weekend as we're going away - our first weekend away this year in the motorhome. Hoping to get away very regularly from now until late Autumn.

Jocks good luck with your walk. I would have a good big protein breakfast maybe with a couple of slices of good quality bread, count one as syns if you must, but with the length of the walk you will need body fuel!

Also, pasta salad alone won't cut the mustard for sustenance. Make sure you have cubed cheese (hex) and ham in it. Nuts are good for energy but you will have to count them a syns.

Hotpot and peas at the end, you could do worse than that, it will be potatoes, veg and meat! Any fat added will easily be offset by your walk.

Have a piece of cake if you must, as a treat, go flexi, but don't consider it for energy giving, it is a false energy, sugar spike, not nice when the sugar levels plummet again and you still have several miles to go!

    HTH

Thank you all for your comments about group or going alone. Perhaps it is because my consultant is a young fluffy ex-city girl, with a sales patter that grates and an enthusiasm that does not strike me as sincere. I don't mean she is false, just that her cheerfulness is the sort you get in McDonald's. The "have a LOVELY day" with big smile. Lots of "FAB!", just not me. Nothing moves her from the script, but I shall give it another go, maybe I will get used to it. Perhaps I need to explore other groups with older consultants!

Joedenise have fun on your weekend away (am so jealous, motorhome! Post pictures please!)
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Re Bread - I love it, really love it but I personally find when I am eating it regularly it stalls my weightloss and I can't seem to get enough of it, the more I have, the more I want so sadly I am best having it on special occasions etc. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with bread it can be a good source of fibre etc but for me it just doesn't allow me to maintain the weight I want. Again different things for different people! I swear they put something in it to make me think I need more than one slice in a sitting lol

Snap! I love bread, really. But I do know that not having it makes me feel better. But then I live within short walking distance from a bakery with lovely breadrolls, every supermarket here has a bakery section in front with the most tempting things... Need to resist, need to resist...

Good luck Jock! The walk sounds amazing, hope the weather is going to be cooperating too!

Just did a session of listing stuff on ebay - was going to take it all to the flea market next Sunday, but just this Wednesday they sent me an email saying I haven't got a stall... It is special kids fleamarket, and there are plenty around every weekend, but since I was convinced I have a stall for that one I only applied for one another, but certain tihngs are just to complicated to take to that one (it is presorted one, where you drop your stuff off, all is sorted by type, size, etc and the organisers keep 15% of the sale for a charity or some other cause), so ebay it is. Just hope things sell at decent prices. Mind you, there is still plenty of stuff to go to the markets...

I think there is a difference between an old school SW consultant who has been doing it for 21 years like mine or someone newer, who seem to be a bit more target focussed. We have a lady in ours who has lost a stone in five years, she doesn't care. But other consultants would have made her feel bad until she left and stopped messing up her stats.

Thanks for all the input on the walk, 23 miles will take about 8 hours I hope, also 3500 feet of climbing as well. I like the idea of a cooked breakfast and using my HEB for something other than cereal. I'll report back when its over.

Apparently in our local Iceland stores consultants are going to be there on Saturday promoting SW and the new ready meals. They'll look right idiots if there's no stock!

How embarrassing that would be :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Caterina - been attending class for ten months and in that time I have lost 6st. I don't think I would have managed that loss going it alone. I stay to class each week and really quite enjoy it. Lovely group of people (ok there maybe an exception here and there ;)) but overall they are a lovely supportive bunch and the consultant is fab. There is no real product pushing either. There is a great feeling of commaraderie and we are all in it together and there for the same reason. To me, at this moment in time, it is worth my fiver a week. The class is also vitually on the doorstep which helps too. It will all depend on the members and consultant and they will vary from class to class and what works for some may not work for other. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Jock - good luck for your 23 miles. Definitely have a good brekkie before you start - SW all day brekkie type of thing or porridge (if you like it) and keep hydrated. Why don't you fill your backpack with weight equal to the weight you have lost and carry that around with you :rotfl: - will definitely show you have much you have achieved in a relatively short time. Fab Body Magic.

On the bread debate - I don't really eat that much these day - but we have developed a habit on a Friday night of having a egg and bacon sarnie when we come back from visiting s-i-l. I try to have drinks and fruit when I am at her house - DH will be attacking all sorts - they are still eating spice cake (whooping big whacks of it) and I am sitting there with my apple or satsumas :D

Have been feeling a big strange over the last few days - will describe it as how I used to feel in the olden days when it was TOTM. I could rip everyones head off and cry my eyes out all at the same time. What it's in aid off - goodness only knows. Hope it shifts soon as I am even getting on my own nerves now. Going to have ham salad for lunch and then I will go out and clean out the inside of the car (providing the rain hasn't arrived by then).

Hope you all have a fab weekend.

I do as well, I'm not sure why but I've decided that bread is the route of all evil and haven't had it, I think I've had 3 slices since I joined 20 weeks ago.

I really was bad for eating it as well, I'd often have a couple of slices of bread and butter with my meal or just as a snack, love fresh warburtons toastie.
