Who's signing up for a "Dry January"?

Still dry and surviving despite the temptation of several bottles of undrunk Christmas wine on the sideboard.
Incidentally does anybody else have a drinks cabinet full of rarely drunk Duty Free bottles of various liqueurs bought in a fit of end-of-holiday enthusiasm which have lurked for years? They seem to keep indefinitely but I'd like to gradually empty the cupboard without pickling my liver in the process. Any suggestions for a practical way of using them?0 -
Still dry here too
Primrose- can you give some away as presents?0 -
Sorbets? Ice creams, puddings?0
-
Well I don't know about presents as many of the bottles have been opened and probably have had a one or two small glasses taken out of them. Still, I suppose, considering the price of spirits these days, people might not be offended if you gave them a bottle saying, "This is something we don't really drink but it's a virtually full bottle still and wonder whether you can make use of it?
Would you be offended if a friend did this to you?0 -
Im struggling tonight.
Been on my feet, busy at work all day with a few challenging customers.
I ache all over and dont know if its from the gym yesterday as I am not very fit, or I am coming down with something.
Soda and lime it will have to be.

Maybe not then, sorry I didn't realise you meant they had been opened!0 -

Hang on in there, and think how pleased you'll be when you wake up tomorrow knowing that you didn't drink. Plus, the clear head will be nice too0 -
Give it a chance, it's only been a week and even when "dieting" you should only really expect to lose 1-2 pounds in a week.
Just remind yourself that each glass of wine or beer is equivalent to eating a mars-bar.
Oh my gosh, really?! That puts into perspective! Sometimes I was 'drinking four Mars bars' a day!
I weighed myself this morn and my body seems to be finally responding to it all. I am being good with food as well though.
Day 10 now and my dad is just making me another cup of tea. Had a little discussion with him as he's been tee total about 10 years and now and said that he doesn't miss it, but still feels that if he tried drinking, reckon he'd go back to his old ways of drinking most days.
I think good on him and everything, but I so want to be that person who can have one and then leave it and I'm not sure I'll ever be that person.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Anyway, I hope that all you dry-January-ers aren't replacing your drinkies with sugar-laden fizzy-pop or juice, or chocolate and crisps...0 -
Reminds me of a quote from a character in the West Wing who was an alcoholic - he said that he "doesn't want one drink, he wants ten drinks", which is why he sticks at zero.

I'm not, but my diet is pretty healthy the majority of the time. However, if someone is struggling, whatever gets them through, its not uncommon for people to develop a bit of a sweet tooth when stopping drinking.0
