Thanks for all your support yesterday everyone, I managed to remain alcohol free
Its not getting any easier to be honest, but I think I can use that as motivation to stay AF for a long time.
Eventually I'd like just to have a few drinks when I go out (which is very rarely, like once a year) and at Christmas. I don't want to be buying ANY in my weekly shopping at all.0 -
Could have killed for a glass last night! STBX stressing me out, worried about money, worried about work, not sleeping well...
At least once I'm in for the evening and LO is in bed I'm not tempted to go to the shop! Was getting the same about sticking wine in with the basics...milk, break, bananas, wine! Must be saving some money!0 -
Y'know what... you're right. I was thinking of the smaller bottles. You often get the choice of a half bottle of wine in a restaurant which is where I'd usually choose it.
What a great gap in the market. Just had a quick google and they are available, but seem to be for pricier wine.
I have been following this thread as a lurker as I too am doing dry January but haven't yet posted. But I read this and it reminded me that M&S used to do 2/3rds (as in 500ml) bottles of wine for about £3.50 and they were pretty nice! Hubby and I used to share these between us rather than get through a whole bottle. However I think they've stopped doing this now which is a shame. You can buy some here:
http://www.strictlywine.co.uk/151-halves-and-50cl-bottles
but it's not the cheapest. Tesco Wine by the Case sells 50cl bottles of Blossom Hill (personally not at all my choice of wine but your mileage may vary!) also.
I've been dry since New Year's Day and it's going OK so far. There is definitely an element of habit involved with drinking, it's mainly about wine for me (and gin and tonics too). Mainly it's about the "I deserve a treat" thought - I like to have something to look forward to in the evenings. I have tried a few alcohol-free substitutes - Erdinger alcohol-free beer is good, and Sainsbury's alcohol free rose is OK if you water it down and chill it to within an inch of its life! Got some Becks Blue as well to try.0 -
I've felt really rubbish today, just a bit unwell, couldnt be bothered drinking if you paid me. Went out with my mum and had a glass of soda water.
Tesco do a 250ml carton of its value wine for 1.69 I think and its certainly not the worst Ive ever tried, asda do 250ml cartons for 1.33 am sure.0 -
Well a week in and Im still hanging in there.
Had a chinese tonight as OH been away for a few days and returned today.
Usually take out and wine go together but I have resisted and stuck to sparkling water and lime in my wine glass.
Well done to everyone else that has made it a quarter of the way.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
Not craving a drink at all. Need to lose some weight after to much food over Christmas so hopefully half a stone gone at the end of Jan. After next week it gets easier I did November dry and that was tough the first week and much easier after that.0

Grumpy day today. Could have done with a glass of wine this evening but managed with iced tonic water and now going to bed to remove the temptation.
Keep going everybody.0 -
Well, another day done, so a full week now. I find that my worst point is the minute I get in the door and my mum has made dinner (makes me feel like a kid saying that, but she cooks for my kids, so makes it all for when I get in at 6pm, and the four of us sit and eat together).
We usually open a bottle and share it between us, but now I pour fizzy water and lime juice and then the craving goes. Once mum goes home, I don't even really feel like wine.
Only annoying thing is that I thought the weight would fall off me with not drinking, but nope it's not! And I'm sticking to all my weightwatcher points!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Another AF evening yesterday. God knows how I managed it tbh, I was really craving it until about 10pm, but didn't.
I have 3/4 of a bottle of red sitting on my window sill but am not even tempted by it, which makes no sense to me at all!
Have to be up at 5am tomorrow, so definitely no alcohol this evening!0 -
Hello! Glad to hear everyone's doing so well, congrats to all!
I'm 12 days booze free now, week days are ok but we'll have to see how the weekend goes! I picked up a 'Dry January' wristband today, for a little extra motivation. I also picked up some alcohol free lager (Asda was selling them off at £1.25 for 4) to try, so will report back once I've tried it.0
