  • Glad the scan went well, Snow - I think I would have lost patience if ours had taken that long, though it is wonderful to see so much of the baby!

Sorry to hear your boss is being a nuisance Pidge - they can't force you to start your maternity leave early unless you are off in the last 4 weeks before DD with pregnancy-related illnesses. You might just need to do some reading up on your rights, and stand up for yourself. Your boss needs to understand the law. Nuisance that you have to be the one to educate him (?) though. Good luck for the scan tomorrow!

Car seat saga, why do they make it so complicated?! Thought we had decided on maxi cosi cabriofix with base thanks to which. Went to buy it in mamas and papas and had a lecture on why the pebble plus and two way base is the best and we should buy that if we want the baby to have the best protection.

Blimey, that sounds like a bit of a hard sell! If you had made up your mind, and done your research, I think you should be happy to say so, and that you've made your decision. I hate shop assistants that guilt you into spending more money that is necessary.
we are going to wales in April, but staying with MIL, FIL, BIL x 2 and SIL in a big house we've hired, so I don't think it's exactly the relaxing time they recommmend!
Ha, we are off to a cottage (by ourselves!) in the middle of nowhere in Wales in mid-March...hopefully before I start waddling, so we can still get out and about :rotfl:

Oh, and we have just booked a day off in a couple of weeks for our John Lewis Nursery thing, followed by a trip to Ikea for the cot etc. I think everything will start to feel a bit more real then (still doesn't, not really!).

We're away to Scotland in last week of march with his family- the end of his brother and SIL first month with new bubs, who despite some worries just after Xmas has stayed put ready for planned section next monday. Will be good to meet him and get a grasp of just how tiny newborns are (more perhaps for OH benefit!)

My birthday today and my mum's been and bought some clothes for bean, knitted a cardi (neutral colour), which I had seen in progress and a book on first year development for me. I've given myself the day off from painting and so have been gardening instead (I enjoy that). Sadly I'm now exhausted but have to go out to tutoring shortly.

We're also planning a weekend to London as there's an exhibition at British Library he wants to go to and I'd like to go to Kew.

Just under two weeks to 20 week scan now. Still not intending on finding out gender though.

Glad your scans went well firebird and snow.

Pidge_jen- sounds like you have had a rough time. Definitely agree that it's time to double check your rights. Does your work have a maternity policy? Is there HR? Are you in a union? Worth seeing what support you can get.

Happy Birthday arbrighton :) hope you've had a good day. Don't tire yourself out too much!

Not much happening here. I need to give work my mat1b form, forgot today! No update on the annual leave difficulites, but meeting with supervisor on Friday so I suspect she will have some progress. I'm full of cold and OH is away so feeling sorry for myself.
  • Hi everyone,
Thanks - yes I work for a very large company with a HR policy and am in a professional union. Going to see what Occy Health say and take it from there. Mum worked in HR as a senior manager for a while so can quote employment law for my benefit if needed!
I don't know how you are all patient enough not to find out the gender, I'm terrible :rotfl: just given the baby a good talking to about not being shy tomorrow!
And yes it's a him. In fairness he's been very good up til now, think he may just be stressed cos it seems half the office is ill. Plus I'm a bit over sensitive, wonder why :rotfl:
Sorry you're full of cold penguingirl, it's rotten. Pregnancy seems to make you pick up everything going. Feel better soon x
    Baby due 21/06/2017 :)

pidge_jen sounds like you have good backup from your mum, your work should not be putting any undue stress on you - and you are well within your right to not start maternity leave early.

Hope baby doesn't cross legs for the big day tomorrow :j

Glad you're well supported pidge jen, and hopefully it was just a poorly thought through remark.

I'm pretty sure I've been getting Braxton Hicks for a couple of weeks, but only just realised what they are. I get times where I thought baby was leaning on my tummy and it goes tight and uncomfortable. I messaged OH telling him, and sent him into a bit of a panic as he didn't know what they were/that they are normal. Oops!

Hi Penguin I have been getting BH too. Tightening was quite weird at first but I seem to be ignoring it quite well now :rotfl:

Ironically, I seem to have super-pregnancy-immunity (touch wood!). Surrounded by ill people for the last few months, and nothing but a few minor sniffles, for which I am exceedingly grateful.

We went to our first hypnobirthing class last night - bit last minute, as it was either this or leaving it until April, which doesn't leave much time for practise! Was very interesting - more of an introduction and explanation this session, with the real work starting next week, but she did cover some quite interesting stuff, including how the uterine muscles work during contractions, which I've never seen explained anywhere else. Made perfect sense, and useful to know - I already feel more confident from understanding what the body is doing at that point, rather than being scared of an unfamiliar feeling. There's only 2 other couples, so a nice small group too.

I'm starting to wish I hadn't booked the NCT classes, as I think the hypnobirthing will be much more useful. Oh well!
  • firebird082, since my first horrible 3-4 weeks with morning sickness swiftly followed by the nasty bug going around at work I've also been very well (so that's the last 10 weeks / weeks 11-20 of pregnancy). I didn't even get the bug as badly as the rest of my colleagues (who were all vomiting and coughing up blood - yuck! - I was only struck with the tail end of morning sickness plus achy joints and banging headache). In the meantime my husband has had a cold recently which I also seem to have escaped.

Touch wood I carry on feeling this good!!
Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.
Enjoying sending hundreds of pounds a month to savings rather than debt repayment!
  • Hi everyone,
I'm hoping the super human immune system kicks in now! Spending my day round sick people is probably not helping haha. Scan went well, and we found out we are team pink :j very happy!
    Baby due 21/06/2017 :)
