Retro I've been looking at the same bundle from Mamas & Papas, were going in on Sunday to try it via their Personal Shopper service as they do an additional discount with that usually. The manager also informed us that they are having an in-store sale at the weekend, which we could apply the discount too as well. My only concern on the R44 is that it doesn't cover side impact which worries me. It doesn't help that our car was written off a few years ago as someone ran into the side. I can only imagine what sort of damage could have been if someone had been in the back let alone a baby.

Maxi-Cosi came out best for me. And i wanted the Pebble baby seat with Familyfix Isofix Base. Bonus is the toddler seat - The Pearl works with same base - so i only needed to buy one Isofix Base.

We went with this for number one and it's been brilliant. DS is two and still rear-facing in the Pearl on the base - although he's a big kid in a small car, he still has plenty of room.

We'll switch the base out though for #2, on the basis the Pearl stays in the car, so fit it properly once, and we should be good. We figured the reassurance of the beeps and lights was more useful for the Pebble as it was being lifted in and out more often.

  • Very true. And i weighed this up as well - but R44 seats are tried and tested and if they weren't safe they wouldn't be on sale.

Very good deal to be had though - and having two seats with the same ISOFIX base is a money saver indeed. And very easy to clip in and out of the car - exactly what we were after.

Additionally - from the Maxi-Cosi site : "No matter your choice, the Pebble is an excellent choice for safety, comfort and convenience thanks to the Side Protection System, padded head support, easy adjustment of harness and headrest and an easy-in harness".

I'm happy ours will protect our child.

Retro once I sent my reply I went back onto the Maxi-Cosi website for what must be the hundreth time over the past few days, and that phrase jumped out at me. The OH is quite keen to go for the deal, if it fits properly etc. It's just such a hard decision and I think I'm making it harder on myself by constantly looking at different reviews.

Thanks Fuzzi, its nice to read/hear how it does throughout the next stage.

Thanks will head there tomorrow. It was Stratford Westfield that I tried today.
Was the bounty pack any good?
  • Morning all :)

Morning sickness is still an issue. Prochloperazine wouldn't stay down, had the mouth dissolvable ones but they were completely ineffective. Metoclopramide were making me sick. Now on cyclizine and fingers crossed this is working. Feeling human again!
Scan was on the 24th, they pushed my due date back 6 days as I was measuring 12 weeks instead of 12+6. So measurements wise today I am 12+5 weeks pregnant. Finally relaxed enough to start really looking at baby stuff instead of glancing as I walk past. Even bought a babygro and some bootees! Been looking at prams and I like the new Mothercare Journey. We had a little demo of it yesterday and it folds up so small, plus it includes the car seat and it's under £300. Only problem with it is that it doesnt have a base to put in the car. My other pram is the Silvercross Wayfarer which is so beautiful but so eyewateringly expensive. May look for a second hand Wayfarer, they're about the same price secondhand as the Journey is new, but not sure how I feel about it being secondhand. OH's dad wants to buy the pram and has not set a price limit but I couldn't ever say "Yeah, £700 please?"

Afternoon ladies, hope you are all well?

We're back from Babymoon. Rome was lovely, although it was a much faster paced city than I expected- more like London or New York than cities such as Barcelona or Prague that are a bit more chilled out. We did lots of walking and all the touristy things- probably a bit too much to be honest. Also it is not a city designed for pregnant women- not enough toilets! And very busy. Yesterday was a very long day as our flight home wasn't until 10pm, but we had to check out of the hotel at 10.30am (although they did look after our bags), so it was gone midnight when we got home. But then I had the best night's sleep for ages and slept solidly for 7 hours! Am still shattered today, but I've picked the cat up, done the shopping and the washing, and OH has finished plastering our bedroom so it is slob-time this afternoon. Don't really want to go back to work tomorrow :(

I'm now 24+1 so it feels like a big milestone. Not sure I'm ready to join the big thread just yet. Might float between them for a bit. We still have not bought a single thing for this baby yet. OH and I did have a chance to have a good talk on holiday about some of our anxieties about how things are going to be. We've also booked onto one of the mothercare baby events (OH doesn't know this yet, but has agreed to it... although he hates feeling like he's being sold to). I've looked at prams on ebay- it seems like they are about half the price. A colleague bought one from there and said the quality was great. My parents are buying our pram for us, but like others I am quite happy to not have 'brand-new' (other than car seat, and even then I'd happily buy from a friend if there was the opportunity). I think we'll get a lot of clothes from our nephews, and a colleague has also offered me a lot from his son. Another colleague is donating a silvercross travel cot. It amazes me how generous people are, but I think they are just happy for them to be used again. We're probably going to try grobags instead of blankets, and there's loads of unused ones on ebay at a fraction of the price.

I've been suffering from heat rash on my bump and arms the last couple of weeks. I mentioned it to midwife last week who said it is quite common due to increased blood flow, but it is so itchy! I just want to scratch my belly the whole time. Midwife said if it gets worse (which it has) I can try a hydrocortisone cream so I think I'll pop into the chemist tomorrow and see if I can get something over the counter. Anyone else having weird pregnancy symptoms?

Hydrocortisone cream is available over the counter Penguingirl- I've used it for my eczema for years. GP said that (and the stronger stuff) is fine to keep using. But I should go and get a new tube as I've lost it and as well as itchy tummy, the ezcema has flared up on my hands and arms. And my eyelids, but I Don't think I can put the steroid cream there.

Oh has just finished his DIY in the nursery so I'm pulling the carpet out and sanding/ finishing prep today. But I'm really tired. I didn't think the tiredness was supposed to be a feature in 2nd trimester. Or maybe I'm pushing myself too hard at the moment to get things done, while not sleeping that well. All the more reason to get the nursery done so I can get the spare bed back in use and try a night on my own.

Oh agrees we need to go and start looking in the various shops at all the stuff that is necessary e.g. pram/ car seat/ cot but meh, we both HATE shopping!
