I believe it's recommended that baby be in carrycot position for first 6 months? I did tell TH that we could just use a sling but he thinks we should get it. I did prefer the bugaboo chameleon as it is slightly lighter than the uppababy, but think the JL offer has swayed us.

Time spent in car seat changed recently too, think they recommend only 20-30 mins?

So how on Earth are you meant to take a baby to meet relatives etc???? MIL is 1.5 hrs away and is disabled so not easy to get to us

arbrighton, maybe look at lie flat car seats if you've got longer journeys? Although I've just tried to look at the research (I have a science background and can't help myself) and it still seems mixed between 2hrs and the lower 30-40 mins. It's to do with increased pressure on lungs in the seated position, hence why a flat one is safer as that's the recommended sleeping position. I had thought about looking at buggies with a built in carry cot/car seat, but now think I'll go for a flat one instead. Less concerned about car seat as I won't be going too far and would just break the journey if we needed to.

I know it was in the news recently and think it was this study:

Re: Consultant - how do you feel about the extra scans? I will be glad of the extra reassurance if they offer it to me.
I'm already booked to have anti-D as I am AB Rhesus Neg

Vanilla & Penguin I had a nosey at studies on the car seat debate after it was posted. There's quite a few mixed opinions on it. I think we'll definitely get a carrycot and look at getting a car seat that can be used as rear and front facing. We don't intend to take any long journeys and if we do, they can always be broken up.

Had a nosey at buggies today quite keen on the iCandy Peach and the Egg. More so because me and the OH quite like the look of them, and they seem quite sturdy. Will need to start looking up reviews etc.
  • I'm gatecrashing this thread as we've just found out we're 13 weeks along with DC2. Came as a bit of a happy surprise, and #2 is shaping up to be just as much of an awkward sod as DS1! Three goes we had for the scan before they could get their measurements this morning - definite shades of the big brother there! Hoping to have an easier ride of pregnancy this time round... :)

I'll have a look at the studies later and see how significant results etc are. It might be a good excuse to not have to go visiting as much ;-) We're already planning to stay put at xmas and encourage people to come to us. And breaking a journey up into 30 minute slots would be a pain in the rear end if you actually want to get anywhere. We'll have two dogs in tow too so the idea of getting everyone in and out of the car that frequently is a bit of a nightmare.

The extra scans are just a precaution. The likelihood is extremely slim. And it's only been shown as a correlation rather than causation etcetc. Consultant didn't seem to think it was going to be an issue. I'd rather know about something than not.

Chances are I will need the anti D as OH is A+ and I'm A- but as the injection sounds rather unpleasant, wait to see if I need it.

Just delurking to say we bought our car seat today and so have looked into this. We're not planning on taking baby much more than 30 mins if poss until she's at least a couple of months old. The car seat we've chosen does go fairly flat though so I'm not going to be too stressed about 30 mins exactly.

We have lots of family some distance away though so have just had to say they'll need to come to us at first.

We also ordered our pram today - Silver Cross Pioneer as I will.be walking lots - I am nearly 30 weeks.though and OH was getting worried she might come early and we'd bought nothing til today!!

How is the Pioneer Cats? Our Mothercare didn't have one in store the other day we went looking, does it fold quite small or is it quite bulky? I've seen them before and I quite like the colours and the basket size.

Hey April - it is more bulky than many but still folds down enough to fit in the boot of our mini!! For comparison, the Silver Cross Wayfarer folded in much better and neater, however ours will only be going in the car maybe once a week so we decided we're ok with a little extra effort because the sturdiness and basket will be great for me walking everywhere.

I'm planning to babywear quite a bit too so we may need it in the car even less!
