My sickness is finally disappearing. We announced our pregnancy to the last few people yesterday so now everyone knows, which is a massive relief. Means I don't need to wear baggy tops and feel like a sack of spuds. Nipped into Jojo Maman Bebe yesterday because they had a sale on and managed to get a couple of new maternity tops and a pair of maternity jeans that were half price. They fit lovely but you can definitely see I am pregnant so I'm even happier that I no longer have to hide it x

    Congrats vivsvics!

Well I think my nausea has finally passed - 16 weeks in! Still absolutely shattered though.

Got my second midwife appointment tomorrow. What should I expect from that? They said at my last one this would only take 15 mins and gave me a sample bottle for a pee!
  • If it's your 16 week one then it's just a check up. You take a pee sample to almost every appointment and they do a dip test :) you should also get to hear the baby's heartbeat!

In your notes somewhere there should be a list of what weeks you have appointments and what they do in the appointment... So at my next one they will take the first measurement of my tummy :)

I was 24 weeks on Friday so I will be off to the next thread very shortly. We have finally almost got the nursery room cleared of our boxes of rubbish, we have a pile of stuff to go in the loft, a pile to sell/charity shop, a pile to go in the shed and a pile to go in the cupboard in the spare room once the baby stuff comes out. This means that DH and FIL can build the cot together when in-laws visit in 2 weeks and we can finally start working out what we want in the nursery... Exciting!

Thanks psycho. Yes it's my 16 week appointment! I had no idea I'd get to hear the heartbeat. V excited about that now! I've not even looked at my notes since I got them so I'll have a wee read tonight!

Good job on getting your boxes of rubbish sorted. We need to get round to that too. We only have two bedrooms and currently the spare room is our guest room plus hubbys office so we had some builders out this week to quote us to floor the loft. My goodness, who knew it was so expensive??? We're going to go for it anyway as it'll be great to have the extra space. Luckily the bank of dad is helping out. Once we get that done we can start planning the nursery - exciting!
  • It's amazing to hear it... How exciting!

Yes we need to floor some of our loft but DH is having to go up there and do it as we can't afford to pay someone now (having only got married in January and bought our house in February!). We aren't meant to put much up there but we have no built in cupboard so not a lot of choice! I'm so pleased we have got so far with the room, just hope we can get the last bits done in time to build the cot in 2 weeks time. I think my nesting instinct has kicked in already as it was starting to stress me out that it hadn't been done! :)

Sorry to dissapoint but not everywhere listens to the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment. They didn't at mine unfortunately, just blood pressure, weight, talked through my blood test results and gave some advice. I think that because they still have occasional trouble finding some heartbeats at 16 weeks, this causes unecessary worry, so they often don't do it.

  • That's strange Kynthia, most people I know heard it at 16 weeks. Fingers crossed for you pink petal!

I also wasn't weighed or asked about weight... But blood pressure was taken and j was given a movement leaflet.

Aw well hopefully I'll get to hear it, fingers crossed. I'm dreading having my weight done, feel like I've gained so much already!

Totally hear you about getting married and moving house psycho...we did the same a couple of years ago. Moved in the January and got married in the September. It was an expensive year!

Pyschopathbabble I think it's a regional thing. Some areas do it and others don't. I borrowed a home sonographer to hear tge heartbeat myself a few weeks ago which was nice.

Also getting the loft boarded will be very useful. Over half of what we now store in the loft is my daughter's stuff ready for the next baby. Crib, activity mat, bumbo seat, Perfect Prep, jumperoo, newborn toys, breast pump, breathing sensor mat, and about four sacks of clothes from newborn to 2 years (including pram suits, star blankets, coats, shoes, towels, sleeping bags, etc). You definitely need storage space. :D

Good luck with all the building works and nursery prep Pink Petal. Last time our house buying over an and my daughter came early. I gave birth between exchange and completion which was really tricky, especially as I hadn't transferred the money to the solicitors or confirmed the moving date with the removal firm. Thankfully it all got sorted but I don't recomend packing and moving with a days old baby. This time we need to decorate the spare room to move my daughter into in order to free up the nursery. I'm 21 weeks now so time to get started with that.

Everyone else enjoying the heat? I'm not looking forward to commuting in it tomorrow.

    Morning everyone!

Fingers crossed you get to hear the heartbeat Pink Petal! We've got our 16 week appt tomorrow too and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Psychopathbabble well done on getting the nursery room cleared, especially in this heat! Ours is still a tip but I'm hoping to get on with it this week. Having said that, I've been saying the same thing for the past 3 weeks!

Had a gender scan yesterday and found out we're team pink! Genuinely would have been over the moon either way, but it is lovely to now be able to buy pink clothes rather than cream and yellow!
