Kynthia, I have said if I get made redundant then it's unlikely I will find another job. But, fingers crossed.

I have yet to persuade DH about the Grey as he isn't convinced. Owl prints sound lovely :) I just don't fancy bright jungle theme or anything, I love the softer colours. But, first to clear the toot!

My sister in law and cousin are both pregnant too, and due just before Christmas. While it's nice SIL and I will have cousins the same age, we won't spend much time together as they are in Scotland. My cousin lives 10 minutes away though so I really hope it brings us closer together and our babies grow up close :) my family is a little disjointed (aren't they all!) but this is a good opportunity to strengthen those family ties x

That's the second time you've used the word toot for clutter/junk. Do you have Irish roots as I've only heard my irish family use it as I think it's irish slang? :D

Nope but I can't write what it actually is :rotfl: I guess my mum used to use it too :)

    That's a good idea Kynthia.

We've already found out that we're having a boy. We weren't fussed at all but just curious and wanted to have a better idea for thinking of names and buying some items.

We haven't settled in a pushchair yet, we've been eyeing up a Venicci travel system though. We've had a look at a couple of changing bags but that seems just as much of minefield!

I've just handed in my MAT B1 form and requested my maternity leave to start on my due date, I'm planning to take 3 weeks annual leave beforehand so will have to manage with that as I'm determined to have the time the other side. Planning on taking 9 months.

I've found ebay good for maernity clothes. There are a lot of branded things for next to nothing. I've bought 3 pairs of next petite maternity jeans from there all of which have been great and all for very little in comparison to new (£5, £5, £11 all inc. postage). Matalan have also been great for long vests for £4 which I've been wearing for work as they go underneath all my normal tops and over the top of my normal trousers. I'm not sure if I'm going to bother buying maternity trousers. I bought a bump band but prefer the long vests as find they stay in place easier.

We've found a couple of amazing bundles of baby clothes locally and basically have all the basics and more for very little. Including some never worn and designer items. Once we're done with them we'll do the same and give someone else the benefit of them.

Beckyy at the end of the day a change bag is just a bag. If you cloth bum and bottle feed then you need a big bag to fit in the big nappies, formula and bottles, and if you use disposables and breastfeed you'll end up using less space. Something you like the look of, isnt uncomfortable to carry, fits on your pram and is easy to keep clean are the main things as like me you might still be using it 2 years later or you might decide to put it all in an ordinary rucksack.

I assume you know that your maternity leave will begin earlier if you give birth earlier than your due date? I went into labour at 38 weeks exactly with my daughter and had her the next morning. Thankfully I'd stopped working two weeks before otherwise I wouldn't have had much of a break between the two. Another in my NCT group was induced at 37 weeks. I can't remember who else was early or late but out of 7 only one went overdue enough to be induced. Not knowing when it will happen does make planning difficult. :)

Perhaps another question I could have asked is if you're thinking of doing an NCT class?

Yeah, fingers crossed he takes after me with punctuality. A little bit early would be fine but after I've had a chance to waddle about the house for a couple of weeks would be preferable! :rotfl:

We don't have any NCT classes within a travel-able distance from us. I'booked onto the NHS ones at 33-34 weeks and I know there are private ones locally I could go to but undecided at the minute. May see how the NHS ones go then book on the others if I think they'll be of more benefit. How about you?

Beckyy I did the class last time with my daughter. It's not cheap but it was really good to learn more about labour and some choices I'd need to make. Plus it really taught my OH about labour so I felt like he'd be able to take charge and make decisions if I was out of it. The best thing was making a group of new friends going through the same things at the same time but there's no guarantee of that happening. Three of my group are currently off on maternity leave with their second so hopefully one will still be off when I go.

The main feedback from NCT classes is the friendships you make :) I've booked nct classes which are 25 minutes away as they are the nearest ones. I'm also going to do the NHS ones as it is my only potential opportunity to get a look at the birthing rooms or labour ward as the hospital don't do tours now and my midwife appointments are at a different hospital.

  • Haha yes my friend who had a baby a couple of weeks ago described the NCT classes as an expensive way to make friends for your maternity leave! She ended up not being able to do any of them anyway as they cancelled the ones before her due date  I don't think I'll go to the NCT ones myself as I'm not planning on living here after the baby is born anyway and it's a bit too much of a trek to meet up with people I only know because they had a baby at around the same time :o

There are a couple of different sets of classes offered by our hospital - I really need to get in touch with them and see what I can fit around my work. They do hypnobirthing which I quite fancy :rotfl:

Our hospital does tours of the delivery suite - they call it the "Stork Walk" which is quite cute! Heard good things about it as apparently all of the midwife led rooms at ours are quite recently refurbished so it should be pretty swanky (as far as hospital rooms go!)

Our hospital has stopped doing tours :( I would just feel a little better if I could have some sight of where I'll be doing this thing.
They do a breastfeeding class too which my friend has said is very good. I'm not sure when you are meant to be able to sign up for their NHS classes though... need to give them a call.

There is actually a free hypno taster session (not NHS) this week so i might go along to see what I think!
